+Frequently Asked Questions
Is Honors participation limited to certain majors or degree programs?
No. Students pursuing any major or degree program at Thomas University may participate in the Honors Program.
Do athletes participate in the Honors Program?
Due to the program rigor and time commitment, particularly during the Junior and Senior years, it is not recommended that student athletes participate in the Honors Program.
Do Honors students receive priority consideration for on-campus housing?
All admitted Honors students are offered the option to reside in the Honors Community in the Magnolia dormitories during their freshman year. However, Honors students are NOT guaranteed on campus housing. Students must apply directly to TU’s Department of Housing for on-campus housing. We suggest that you apply as early as possible for housing, since space is limited. Do not wait for your Honors decision to apply for on-campus housing!
How are Honors courses different from non-Honors courses?
Most Honors courses are limited to about 20-25 students which promotes a high level of student participation and discussion, and allows for individual attention. Critical thinking skills and creative processes are cultivated through the Honors environment. So, Honors courses are different, but not necessarily harder.
Does my application to the Honors Program obligate me to attend TU?
No, by submitting your Honors application, you are not committing yourself to attend TU. After being offered admission to the Honors Program, you are required to accept your admission and reserve your seat. This indicates your commitment to participate in Thomas University Honors. Students are not able to reserve their seats until late February at the earliest, which allows ample time for you to consider all of your options. The deadline to complete the seat reservation process is May 1; however, waiting until the deadline is not recommended as seats are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who attempt to reserve their seat after May 1 (or after the class is filled, regardless of date) will be placed on a waiting list. Instructions describing how to reserve your seat will be provided when you are accepted into the Honors Program.
