2023 Forbes Society Awards

Each year Thomas University honors its exceptional supporters with the annual Forbes Society Awards.

The Ambassador’s Award is given to individuals in appreciation of exceptional volunteer commitment to Thomas University. These individuals’ selfless contribution of their time and energy has been vital to the activities of the University.

This year’s award went to Laura and Kevin Reid in appreciation of their tireless dedication to our residential students at Thomas University. The Reids are at countless athletic events throughout the year showing their support. Laura and Kevin know, care, feed, and encourage many students on campus. Their commitment as volunteers is unsurpassed and they truly are great “Ambassadors” for TU.

President’s Award This award is given to a corporation or foundation that consistently supports the Thomas University mission and that has consistently fostered the continued growth of all aspects of the University.

This year’s award was presented to Maule Air, represented by Brent Maule, for their partnership to offer Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) curriculum that will integrate workforce development and lead to a bachelor degree in Aviation Quality Management. Brent’s vision of hiring young people and teaching them to build airplanes while they are working, is a true gift that will help students while addressing a shortage of critical workers.

The Vicey Harris Award recognizes an individual for unique service to Thomas University during a critical time in the school’s history. This award is named in honor of Vicey Harris, whose initial gift of $10,000 began the Birdwood College fund, setting the foundation for Thomas University.

This year, Jeff Monken, Head Football Coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point, received the award for his advice, support and belief in the idea of a veteran transition football team. His belief in the program from the very first discussion has led to establishing our coaching staff and continued development of the team. Because of Coach Monken’s generosity and support, TU is on a new trajectory. Although Coach Monken could not attend the event, he accepted the award via a recorded video.

The W. Cameron Forbes Award is named in honor of one of TU’s founders. It is given to an individual who displays a life-long commitment to education and to Thomas University.

This year’s award recipient is Howard Floyd who served his country in Vietnam, returned home and was instrumental in building the business program at Thomas University. Howard embodies lifelong learning and a dedication to others as he continues teaching Sunday School in his church and serving as a Gideon. Additionally, he has assisted in helping TU with outreach to military service members.
