The “New” TU

In keeping with the changing times and in an effort to meet the needs of both students and employers, Thomas University recently introduced several new initiatives that are part of an effort the university calls “The New TU.” These include organizing the academic offerings in to three distinct schools, adding several new majors, and introducing a restructured fee schedule beginning Fall 2021.

Three Schools. Thomas University implemented a three-school system in order to focus on the needs of students specific to each school.

The School of Arts and Sciences consists of traditional age, on-campus students who attend in-person classes. A variety of activities, academic and personal support as well as an emphasis on student development are offered.

The School of Professional Studies focuses on the needs of working adults who are trying to balance professional and personal obligations while earning their bachelor’s degree. Classes are offered completely online in an asynchronous format. All student support services are offered online including library, tutoring and advising.

The Graduate School is made up of students pursuing graduate degrees.  Some programs are offered entirely online in both synchronous or asynchronous formats and some are also available on-ground in Thomasville or other approved locations.

New Programs. Over the past several years, TU has been in the process of phasing out academic programs with low or no enrollment and replacing them with newer degree programs.

The new degree programs as of Fall 2021 will include the on-campus Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science and Literature & Media, as well as an online Bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security. The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling will also add a specialization in School Counseling

Other academic programs are being developed and several newly created programs are awaiting final accreditation approval.  Those include the online Bachelor’s degrees in Supply Chain Management, Computer Systems Management, and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership.

TU has also implemented non-credit certification and endorsement preparation courses in education, information technology, project management, Cloud computing and more!

Restructured Tuition and Fees. The University has also worked diligently at automating and streamlining internal processes that increased efficiency. All these factors allow TU to introduce a reduced undergraduate tuition rate and restructured fee schedule that will take effect Fall 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions

+School of Arts & Science (On-campus Students)

Will housing or food service expenses increase?

We are not planning to increase housing or food services fees for the 2021-22 academic year.

What fees will be applied?

For students attending classes on the campus in Thomasville, there will only be two fees:

  • Technology fee of $90 per semester
  • Student Activity fee of $50 per semester

Please note that fees associated with specific courses will still apply.

Will my institutional Scholarship be adjusted (academic, athletic or activity)?

If you are receiving an institutional scholarship for academics, athletics or a student activity, the amount will be adjusted. We will continue to apply state and federal financial aid funds to your balance first and adjust your institutional scholarship accordingly. This is the same process we currently use.

The only way to determine exactly how the new tuition and fee structure will affect your account is to complete the 2021-22 FAFSA immediately and complete your financial aid file. Once you register for fall classes, your expenses and aid will be applied.

My parents and I have questions. Who can they speak with?

TU staff will gladly speak with parents about this transition. However, you MUST have a FERPA form completed and on file in order for us to do that. If you haven’t completed a FERPA form, that is available in HawkLink under ‘Academic Forms’.

Students and/or parents should contact Financial Services with their questions.
