Community Generosity to Support Student Scholarships

A Thomas University education will be more affordable for students thanks to the record-breaking generosity of sponsors of the annual Dining for Education Drive-Thru Dinner.

The “Supper in the South” themed drive-thru dinner was held on March 25, at SASS! Restaurant in downtown Thomasville. It was supported by over 50 sponsors including local corporations, businesses, and individuals, whose philanthropic gifts eclipsed funds raised in previous years.

The monetary gifts are for general students’ scholarships that will ensure students can successfully attend Thomas University and have flourishing careers.

“We are so appreciative of our sponsors for Dining for Education ‘Supper in the South’ for making this a record-breaking year for raising funds for student scholarships,” Carla Turner, Associate VP for Advancement, said. “These resources are vital in transforming our students’ lives by improving their career opportunities and ultimately their quality of life.”

Freshman Marko Owendy, one of several TU students who volunteered at the event, said he is really appreciative of TU, and all the things they’ve done including getting the community involved in his education.

“The success of ‘Supper in the South’ would not be possible without the hard work of our planning committee,” Turner said. “We are so grateful to have volunteers that believe in the mission of Thomas University and realize the impact that a degree can have on an individual’s path in life.”

The planning committee members include Janna Crane (chair), Christa Carter, Raquel England, Caroline Flowers, Allyson Fralish, Leah Merschman, Eve Rumble, March Sizemore, and Kellie Rome.

“Thomas University and its students hold a special place in our hearts, and we consider them an invaluable part of our community,” Janna Crane, chair of the planning committee, said. “Through my participation in the Dining for Education Committee, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact it has on students’ lives and the opportunities it provides. By investing in their education, we are investing in the future of our community.”
