Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and organized individual to fill the role of Bookstore
and Spirit Shop Coordinator. Under the general supervision of the AVP of Operations, the Bookstore &
Spirit Shop Coordinator will participate in operating, planning, and controlling the operations of the
Bookstore and Spirit Shop as a fiscally viable Auxiliary Enterprise This position plays a pivotal role in
managing the daily operations of both the bookstore and spirit shop, ensuring that they are well-stocked,
efficiently run, and provide excellent customer service.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Work with AVP of Operations to determine physical layout of all merchandise department areas to
ensure optimal use of space as well as esthetic qualities necessary to create a pleasing retail
atmosphere to the campus community that enhances merchandise sales and inventory turns.
Considerable time and effort are spent on floor merchandising and product display and placement. - Coordinate and attend all external sales and promotional events that involve goods from the Spirit
Shop, Campus orientations/events, sporting and graduation events. Determine merchandise to be sold,
arrange for sales and cashiering staff, set up, tear down, and accountability for goods sold. - Work with the finance department as necessary to ensure accurate invoicing and discounts are being
taken as appropriate, review and sign off on all Mark Ups/Downs. In compliance with internal control
guidelines, maintain appropriate separation of duties when processing financial transactions. - Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records for both the bookstore and spirit shop,
including ordering, receiving, and stocking merchandise. - Product Selection: Work closely with vendors and suppliers to curate a diverse selection of, apparel,
gifts, and spirit items that appeal to our community. - Visual Merchandising: Create visually appealing displays and layouts to showcase merchandise
effectively and drive sales. - Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons, addressing inquiries,
processing transactions, and resolving any issues or concerns in a timely manner. - Sales and Promotions: Develop and implement sales strategies, promotions, and events to boost
revenue and engage the community. - Marketing and Outreach: Collaborate with the marketing team to promote bookstore and spirit
shop offerings through various channels, including social media, email newsletters, and campus
events. - Financial Management: Monitor sales performance, track expenses, and prepare regular reports to
evaluate the financial health of the bookstore and spirit shop. - Team Leadership: Supervise and train bookstore and spirit shop staff, fostering a positive work
environment and ensuring that team members are knowledgeable and motivated. - Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations governing
bookstore and retail operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, retail management, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience in retail management, preferably in a bookstore or similar environment.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused mindset.
Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Creative flair with a passion for books, fashion, and school spirit.
