Resident Director for University Housing
Job Summary:
Thomas University, an independent, not-for-profit, institution of higher education in Thomasville, Georgia with undergraduate and graduate programs, invites applicants for the position of Resident Director for University Housing. This position reports directly to the Dean of Students, Director of Housing, or designee. The Resident Director (RD) oversees the daily operations of a university undergraduate residence community. This position is a twelve-month appointment. The RD implements and enforces policies and regulations on a community level and works with university administration in multiple aspects of Residence Life. Additionally, the RD must have the ability to work effectively with residents and Resident Assistants (RAs), providing them with guidance, feedback, and support when needed. This is a live-in position that requires the RD to live in one of the residence halls in their assigned community.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Trains, supports, supervises, and evaluates all Resident Assistants in the assigned university residence community.
- Oversees community-wide programming for residents and staff and serves as a resource for the RAs in their programming for residents.
- Ensures that university policies and housing procedures are consistently enforced.
- Ensures compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations and laws.
- Monitors the conditions of the housing facilities, ensuring security, working facilities, and adequate amenities and reports issues to the Dean of Students, the Director of Housing, the Director of Facilities, or other relevant officer of the University.
- Communicates resident concerns to the Dean of Students, Director of Housing, or designee.
- Listens, documents, and addresses resident concerns within the RD’s scope.
- Handles crisis/conduct issues in accordance with university policy.
- Responds immediately to emergencies beyond the scope and ability of the RAs
- Responsible for damage assessment.
- Performs special projects or duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience with student life in higher education, particularly in the area of residence life.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Strong knowledge and experience in programming for late adolescents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Technological proficiency, particularly with Microsoft and Google suites.
- Must be able to clear a criminal background check.
- Must have independent transportation beyond the university shuttle.
