Library Assistants
Function:
Library Assistant-Access Services is a work-study position and applicant must be eligible and approved through Financial Aid. Library Assistants must report to the Library Technical Assistant-Access Services, or other designated professional librarian on a daily basis, or as indicated by a prescribed schedule, for all shift assignments.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains presence at the circulation desk to greet patrons, answer directional questions, and answer the phone adhering to customer service standards
- Assists patrons in locating, utilizing, and checking out library resources
- Operates the library circulation and Interlibrary Loan systems
- Assists patrons in use of library computers,printers, and copiersand with basic technical questions
- Checks the book drop and picks up the library mail
- Records number of patrons entering the library
- Performs routine cleaning and straightening of furniture
- Prepare and execute Library displays
- Updates Library bulletin boards
- Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or other staff members
- Special roles include: managing the library social media accounts by making and posting flyers, events, and posts; planning and executing events and activities to take place in the library; other roles assigned as needed.

Qualifications:
Library Assistants-Access Services should have average eye-hand coordination, use of fingers, and good verbal and written communication skills. They should be able to work with detail, check accuracy, make visual comparisons, and work well with people. Library Assistants-Access Services should also be able to move often from one task to another using several different skills.
They should have the ability to walk, stand, sit, push, pull, bend, stoop and reach for long periods of time as well as lift up to 35 pounds. Work Study Assistants should have experience and skill in the operation of personal computers, word processing, e-mail, and searching the Internet.
Terms of Employment:
Part-Time Federal Work Study Position-Hours not to exceed 20 per week
