Thomas University SHRM chapter invites new members

The Thomas University chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management will hold a Zoom kick-off meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 1. TU students and human resources professionals are invited to join this new SHRM chapter.

SHRM is considered the foremost expert, convener and thought leader on issues impacting today’s evolving workplaces. With more than 300,000 HR and business executive members in 165 countries, SHRM impacts the lives of more than 115 million workers and families globally. 

Featured speakers for the meeting will be Demetrius Norman, Senior Specialist, Academic Initiatives,SHRM, Alexandria Virginia, and Monique Akanbi, current District 2 Director with HR Florida and Immediate Past-President of the Big Bend SHRM, South Georgia and North Florida.

Norman has 20 years of experience in the nonprofit industry. He has specialized in modernizing operations through improved process management and technology implementation, and overall number of aligned programs and student testers. Norman serves as the subject matter expect on all things related to SHRM’s Academic Alignment and Student Eligibility program and helps drive SHRM’s emerging professional initiatives.

Akanbi is the Vice President, People and Culture, at the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and has over 15 years of HR and training experience. Akanbi is a professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification, and Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification. In addition, she is a Master Examiner and Mentor with the Florida Sterling Council Board of Examiners, where she visits organizations throughout the state across all industries to assess their leadership system and organizational performance through the National Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence model.
