Thomas University offers endorsements for certified teachers

Post Published On:

Starting this fall, Thomas University’s Division of Education will offer four endorsements for certified teachers in K-5 math, gifted in-field education, online teaching, and dyslexia. Each endorsement recognizes a teacher’s additional expertise in that area.

“We strive to develop academic programs that meet the needs of our K-12 school partners, said Dr. Susan Lynn, Chair of the Division of Education. “Our new endorsements provide K-12 teachers an opportunity to expand their expertise in specific areas identified by our school partners as important areas of study. These programs will enable educators to develop the knowledge and skills they need to address students’ learning needs.”

Teachers may enter an endorsement program as a post-baccalaureate student who is not seeking another degree, or they may incorporate the endorsement classes while completing a degree program at TU. All classes leading to teaching endorsements are only eight weeks long.

The K-5 math endorsement will enhance the mathematical content and pedagogical knowledge of teachers for these grades. This teaching endorsement requires completion of three classes.

The gifted in-field endorsement is intended to enhance teachers’ understanding of how gifted learners grow and develop so that these teachers can design and provide developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences. It requires completion of three classes.

The online teaching endorsement consists of four classes. With this endorsement, teachers will be prepared with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to become effective online educators.

The dyslexia endorsement will enhance a teacher’s understanding of dyslexia and related reading disorders, including evidence-based screening tools and multisensory, instructional methods and interventions. This endorsement requires completed of three classes.
