Next ‘Thomasville Live’ to feature local violinist Joy Tedford

Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) will present a “Thomasville Live” performance at noon Friday, June 19, featuring Thomasville resident violinist Joy Tedford at www.facebook.com/actu31792/live.

“Thomasville Live” is a partnership with the Thomasville Center for the Arts and is sponsored in part by the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation. The program will feature interviews, educational content about the instruments and music, and performances with host Karl Barton.

Tedford began playing violin at the age of 4 as the youngest violin student in the Suzuki class at the Bourgas School of Music in Bulgaria. From an early age she began competing in national and international violin competitions and music festivals. Tedford was the first prize winner of the prestigious Svetoslav Obretenov, Bulgaria and Yan Kozian Czech Republic Competitions.

Tedford continued her music education at the National Music Academy Pancho Vladigerov, Sofia, Bulgaria and graduated with a master’s degree in music performance and music education. After her graduation, Tedford toured with orchestras throughout Western Europe and was a member of Plovdiv Symphony Orchestra and Plovdiv State Opera.

After moving to the United States, Tedford continued her career with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. She moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area the following year to continue pursuing her career with regional orchestras, including the Plano Symphony Orchestra and Richardson Symphony Orchestra, where she was a first violinist for 20 years. Tedford also spent 15 years as a member of the Richardson String Quartet.

She is a founding member of Piano Trio Bourgas, which is a collaborative experiment of three musicians living in different cities who come together once a year for a series of concerts. The trio started performing together in 2018 and has performed concerts in England, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts and Texas.

Since 2017, Tedford has lived In Thomasville with her family. She teaches privately and performs with different orchestras, churches and chamber music groups throughout Georgia, Florida and Alabama. Tedford is also the owner and operator of the Thomasville Bed and Breakfast.
