Head JV/ Assistant Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach

Function: 

The person in this position has complete oversight responsibility for the planning and administration of all aspects of the JV men’s basketball program. The Head JV/Assistant Varsity men’s basketball coach should build a sense of community and enthusiasm around the men’s basketball program by engaging the student body, alumni, parents and fans. 

Reports to: Athletic Director 

Responsibilities: 

1. Recruitment and retention of qualified student –athletes, who can be successful academically, socially, and athletically at Thomas University 

2. Coaching/practice and planning/preparation for the men’s basketball program 

3. Organization and execution of overall player development 

4. Include but is not limited to program budget oversight, scheduling, travel, management, and athletic training/skill development 

5. Game day operations and logistics 

6. Fundraising 

7. Support the University’s commitment to academic excellence 

8. Assisting the Women’s Basketball Coach in game day operations/set-up as needed 

9. Adhere to the guidelines/regulations of the NAIA, The SUN Conference, and Thomas University 

10. Track the academic progress of players 

11. Other job duties as assigned by the Athletic Director 

Education/Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred 

• Minimum Required: Playing and or college coaching experience 

• Preferred: Three (3) years of college basketball experience in coaching and recruiting 

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs 

• Complete NAIA Champions of Character Character-Driven online course (must 

be completed within 60 days of employment)

· Strong interpersonal skills

Terms of Employment: 

Full benefits, letter of employment, Full-Time, 12 months 

Exempt position, 40 hours/week, hours will vary with season 

Salary is commensurate with experience based on the department scale

– Work requires: varying degrees of gymnasium game day and practice preparation 

– Travel for games and recruiting
