Cheerleading Coach

POSITION TITLE: Cheerleading coach

DEPARTMENT: Student Life

SUPERVISOR: Athletic Director

GENERAL DUTIES: The Cheer coach must be capable of teaching students in a variety of methods from demonstration to verbal direction. This person must demonstrate compassion and concern for the academic and physical well-being of our athletes.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Recruit and maintain minimum number of members: determined by Athletic Director

2. Choreographing and teaching routines

3. Monitor the team progress

4. Monitor academic progress of individual members of team

5. Vary instruction to meet the needs of individual members

6. Supervises auditions for new team members

7. Responsible for conducting all rehearsals

8. Properly structure each practice from warm ups to technique building

9. Attend every team event

10. Perform routines at and during men’s football home games and all home men’s and women’s basketball games…

11. Supervise, recruit and maintain Talon mascot and uniform

QUALIFICATIONS:

Academic/Professional:

Education: Bachelor’s preferred but not required.

Professional: Minimum of five years cheer experience with dance training a plus

Required: must have a strong background in the performing arts, e.g. hip hop, jazz, modern dance, pom

Personal:

1. must have an understanding of and commitment to the mission of Thomas University.

2. must be compliant with rules and regulations set by the university and other sanctioning bodies

3. must be highly motivated self-starter
