ACTU presents pre-game ‘Musical Valentines’

Post Published On:

Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) will present the Sundays at Four concert “Musical Valentines” Feb. 12 at Trinity Anglican Church in Thomasville.

The concert will feature music from classical composers ranging from Mozart to Debussy along with selections from George Gershwin and Meredith Wilson’s “Music Man.” This event will feature an ensemble cast consisting of soprano Rebecca Fadell Brinson, violist Sally Hernandez, flutist Karl Barton and pianist Jim Amend.

“This short concert is a great prelude to the Super Bowl,” said Dr. Karl Barton, series coordinator and TU Professor of Music. “This will be a way to celebrate love with beloved selections of the performers and songs about love.”

Brinson is an experienced soprano singer from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She performed in operatic roles in many productions – including Britten’s “Turn of the Screw,” Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito” – over the course of her career. Recently, Brinson performed in Camerata South’s production of “Bastien et Bastienne” by Mozart, “La Serva Padrona” by Pergolesi, and as the soprano soloist in Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater.” Brinson also serves as Music Director at Moultrie First Presbyterian.

Dr. Hernandez is a native of Oklahoma City who has played the violin from the age of 9, and has been teaching strings from the age of 16. She received her Doctorate in Viola Performance from Florida State University. For her prior degrees, Dr. Hernandez earned a Master’s Degree in Music from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and obtained a Bachelor of Music Degree in Viola Performance degree from Oklahoma City University. She is currently Director of Classical Music at Trinity Anglican Church. Dr. Hernandez is in her 11th year as the Director of the Thomasville High School & Scholars Academy String Orchestra. Hernandez performs actively as an orchestral musician, joining the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra for their regular season.

The performance will begin at 4 p.m. Feb. 12. There will also be the option to watch the performance online via www.facebook com/actu31792/live for those unable to attend the concert live.
