Director of Housing
DESCRIPTION:
Thomas University, an independent, not-for-profit, institution of higher education in Thomasville, Georgia with undergraduate and graduate programs invites applicants for the position of Director of Thomas University Housing. The Director of Housing provides strategic leadership for and oversight of all aspects of Housing at Thomas University. This individual will work with university students, faculty, and staff to foster a vibrant campus environment that supports student development, well-being, and success. In addition, the Director will supervise Resident Directors, Resident Assistants, and provide leadership and direction for residential programming. The position is a twelve-month appointment and reports to the Dean of Students. If the candidate is properly credentialed in a discipline offered by the university, the Director may be accorded status as an administrator with faculty status and teach within an academic program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the Dean of Students and other relevant stakeholders to create and implement a guiding vision for Thomas University Residence Life
- Hires, trains, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the Resident Directors and Resident Assistants
- Trains, supports, schedules, and supervises all Resident Directors and Resident Assistants. Hosts at least one all RD/RA meeting per month for supervision and training purposes
- Schedules and oversees all required residential programming and safety efforts (Title IX, alcohol awareness, fire drills, etc.)
- Works with the Dean of Students to provide fiscal management and oversight for the department budget
- Ensures that Resident Life policies and procedures, rules, and regulations are current and enforced
- Oversees room and roommate selection and assignment processes
- Works collaboratively with the Office of Student Accounts, Facilities, and other relevant university entities
- Responsible for crisis and risk management as it relates to housing
- Oversee the student arrival and departure process
- Manages housing for summer camps and other events
- Keep current with “best practices” as they relate to housing
- Works with the Dean of Students and other university personnel to collect and analyze data relevant to Residence Life
- Works with the Dean of Students and other relevant stakeholders on data-driven continuous improvement within TU Residence Life
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, business, or related field from an accredited institution
- Prior leadership experience in Student Life and/or Residence Life
- Commitment to supporting the needs of students
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate conflict resolution, de-escalation, and intervention skills
- Accuracy in reporting and attention to detail
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in student affairs, education, business, or related field from an accredited institution
- Prior leadership experience in Student Life and/or Residence Life with specific experience administering a residence hall or residential community
