The 2020 Commencement scheduled for Saturday, May 09, 2020, has been postponed due to COVID-19.
TU is tentatively planning a December Commencement ceremony. Graduates who cannot attend the December ceremony may instead choose to participate in the Spring 2021 Commencement. Details will be communicated as arrangements are finalized.
Students who intend to graduate must complete the Application for Graduation located in HawkLink by November 15th of the academic year in which they anticipate completion of their degree. Students who graduate in the fall are eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony the following spring. Students who graduate in the summer and are taking 10 credit hours or less are eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony the prior spring.
ALL students pay a graduate fee of $175. The graduation fee covers all expenses associated with graduation, including your diploma. This is a required fee regardless of the applications outcome or participation in the commencement ceremony.
The information below should be reviewed by all students prior to graduating.
Graduation candidates must order caps and gowns online for the May 2020 commencement ceremony. Detailed instructions for ordering will be emailed to all Fall, Spring and Summer graduation candidates.
Ordering deadline is APRIL 2, 2020. Due to postponing the 2020 Commencement until December, graduates will also be able to order their caps and gowns in the fall.
When ordering your cap and gown, please be sure you choose the correct degree (Associate, Bachelor’s or Master’s). Wearing the cap and gown is required for participation. It is your responsibility to bring your cap and gown with you for the ceremony. If you do not have the proper cap and gown, you will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony. Once your order has been placed, you will receive a confirmation email to notify you that it was successfully placed.
Please note that the cost of the cap and gown is included in the graduation fee. There is NO CHARGE during ordering unless additional items (such as invitations, announcements, diploma frames, class rings, etc.) are ordered.
Note: Graduation fees only pay for ONE cap and gown. If you order more than one you will be held financially responsible.
If you have an issue with your order or have questions regarding a cap and gown, please contact the Student Accounts office.
Thomas University’s sixty-fifth Commencement has been postponed until December 2020 and will be held outside on the Forbes Campus of Thomas University.
Your Cap and Gown order serves as your RSVP to the ceremony.
IF YOU DO NOT ORDER YOUR CAP AND GOWN, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR TICKETS.
*Students in the Education Specialist Program may use the same cap and gown used only if you graduated from a Thomas University Master of Education Program. Please let us know if you plan to attend via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Part of the privilege of attending a small university is participating in a graduation ceremony at which your professors, TU administrators and staff, family members and classmates celebrate your academic accomplishment. We wish all of you could attend but understand that it’s just not possible for some. If you are planning to attend, you must order you cap and gown. Doing so will reserve you a seat and four tickets for your guests.
Graduates will be provided specific instructions regarding the commencement ceremony. Students will be asked to arrive at the Smith-Bonvillian building to line up by 7:30 a.m.
We hope that you will share your graduation with your family and friends. Due to a record number of graduates, each graduating student may receive four tickets for reserved seating. You must order your cap and gown so that we know you are attending. Please note that guests without a ticket may attend the outdoor ceremony if they bring their own chair and sit outside of the reserved ticketed section. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Thomasville County Central High School Gymnasium. Regardless of where the ceremony is held, it will be live-streamed on the web and recorded for viewing by family members and friends who are not able to attend. The link for the live-stream and recording will be posted on the Commencement Information page by May.
In order to receive your tickets, you must complete a Graduating Student Survey and, if applicable, Financial Aid Exit Counseling. You will receive, via email, a unique code that unlocks the Graduation survey for you in late April. You will then receive a unique confirmation when the survey is completed. You must print and bring your confirmation page to the Office of the Registrar in order to receive your tickets. If you are a distance student or unable to come to campus to pick up your tickets, please bring your survey confirmation to Friday’s rehearsal or Saturday’s Will-Call table. Tickets will not be distributed without verification that you have completed the survey. No tickets will be mailed.
ATTENTION ALL GRADUATES WHO HAVE FEDERAL LOANS: You MUST complete Exit Counseling when you are no longer attending college in order to be prepared to repay your federal student loan. Please go to https://studentloans.gov, select Complete Exit Counseling and follow the instructions provided. For a Guide to Exit Counseling, please visit https://studentaid.ed.gov/es/sites/default/files/loan-exit-counseling.pdf.
