THOMAS UNIVERSITY
SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

Dear Applicant:

The Social Work Program requires that students who wish to work toward their undergraduate social work degree be admitted to the major through a separate admissions process. The admissions process is described in the enclosed materials along with all of the admissions materials you will need to submit to the Program. Please review all of these materials carefully. It is important for you to note that the social work program is a four-semester program of study that begins in the fall semester. The Division of Social Work offers both day and night time programs to accommodate traditional and non-traditional students’ schedules.

The primary admissions period is in the spring semester prior to your junior year. However, admissions applications are accepted on a year-round basis and some social work courses may be taken as electives prior to completion of 60 semester hours.

Please look over the enclosed program and admission materials. Follow the instructions and return all of the forms and your admission statement to the Social Work Program Office or any member of the Social Work faculty. Within 30 days of receiving all completed materials, the Social Work Admissions Committee will provide you a written copy of our decision.

If you have any questions about the program, course prerequisites, or admissions process, please contact us at 229-226-1621

Bill Milford, LCSW ext. 223
Susan Fowler, LCSW, Ed.D ext. 125
Laura Myers, Ph.D. ext. 221

We will be most happy to schedule an appointment with you at any time. Thank you for your interest in our program, and we look forward to hearing from you.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT ADMISSIONS PROCESS

The admissions process for the Thomas University Social Work Program has been designed to help both the faculty and you decide if social work is the right major for you.

To be admitted to the Program, you first must complete an Undergraduate Admissions Packet. This application includes:

  1. the completed Admissions Application form;
  2. your undergraduate admissions statement;
  3. two letters of reference, using the forms in the packet;
  4. a current degree audit from the Thomas University Registrar.

All these materials must be submitted before your application can be accepted.

Your application will be evaluated by the faculty on four criteria:

  1. your overall GPA;
  2. your grades while at Thomas University (if applicable);
  3. the quality of your essay;
  4. your references;
  5. your interview.

To be admitted to the social work undergraduate program, you must have a GPA of 2.0 or above and should be a Junior by the start of the Fall Semester. However, some social work courses may be taken as electives prior to completion of 60 semester hours. Transfer students who have taken courses from another accredited college or university must consult with the social program staff and the university registrar about how credit will transfer.

Applications are taken year round. However, introduction social work courses begin each fall semester only. Please submit your application packet to the Division Secretary or Social Work Faculty.
