Three TU Teams Named NAIA Scholar Teams

July 17, 2007

The NAIA announced Monday that over 400 teams were named NAIA Scholar Teams, including 3 from Thomas University. Baseball, Softball, and Women's Golf all surpassed the required 3.0 grade point average for the 2006-07 academic year.

The softball team led the way, not only for TU, but all NAIA Softball teams, with an incredible 3.55 GPA. Baseball was the 5th highest in their sport with a 3.15, and Women's Golf made the grade with a 3.02. The golfers were all freshmen, which makes this accomplishment even more impressive.

"When you combine this achievement in the classroom with the Softball team going to the National Tournament, Baseball going to the regional tournament, and sending a golfer as an individual to the National Championships, this has truly been an extraordinary year",  TU Athletic Director Mike Lee said. "All of our coaches have done a great job emphasizing performance in the classroom, as well as on the field. The coaches and students should be commended for a job well done. I really think this shows that we are doing things the right way at Thomas University."

As a department, the athletes finished the Spring semester with a 3.03 GPA, the highest in nearly 2 years.
