TU Soccer Announces Summer Academy Dates

May 7, 2009

TU Soccer will be hosting their annual summer soccer academy for Boys and Girls beginning May 26.

The Night Hawks will be running their girls academy May 26-29 while the boys academy will be June 1-4. Each camp will offer three different options: the Pee Wee Camp is open to boys and girls ages 4-6, Academy Camp will run from 9AM-12PM for boys and girls ages 7-13, Day Camp will run from 9AM-3PM for boys and girls ages 7-13.

A pre registration discount is available for Pee Wee and Academy campers. Below you will find the price breakdown.

Pee Wee Camp: Pre Registration Price - $50.00, Walk Up Price - $60.00

Academy Camp: Pre Registration Price - $80.00, Walk Up Price - $100.00

Day Camp: Registration Price - $100.00

Night Hawks Baseball to hold Summer camp

The TU Baseball team will be holding their annual summer camp June 15-19, 2009 at Varnedoe Stadium for ages 6-12. Each participant will receive a t-shirt, as well as instruction in the fundamentals of the game. Coach Mike Lee and TU players will be conducting the camp from 9am- 12pm each day. Cost for each participant is $75, or $65 for groups of 3 or more from the same family.

Royals Select Stovall in 19th Round of MLB Draft

June 10, 2009

The Kansas City Royals selected senior shortstop Ryan Stovall (Live Oak, FL) in the 19th round, 572 overall, of the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft this afternoon.

Stovall becomes the first player in TU baseball history to be selected in the draft. The Live Oak, FL native is coming off of a record breaking season in which he helped to guide the Night Hawks to a 30-13 record on the year. In his only season as a Night Hawk Ryan set TU single season records in batting average (.487), slugging percentage (1.032), hits (76), home runs (20), total bases (161), and stolen bases (14). He also tied the record for runs batted in (52) and triples (6). Stovall capped his outstanding season by being named A.I.I. Player of the Year and 2nd Team All American.

Stovall Named NAIA 2nd Team All American

Senior shortstop Ryan Stovall continues to be honored for a record setting season after being named to the NAIA All America 2nd Team.

Stovall finished the season with the second highest batting average in the NAIA (.487). The native of Live Oak, FL led the NAIA in Slugging Percentage with a 1.032, was second in total bases per game (3.744) and fourth in home runs per game (.465). During the 2009 season, Stovall led the Night Hawks in average, runs (57), hits (76),        triples (6), home runs (20), runs batted in (52), total bases (161), and slugging percentage.

In his only season as a Night Hawk Ryan set TU single season records in batting average, slugging percentage, hits (76), home runs (20), total bases (161), and stolen bases (14). He also tied the record for runs batted in (52) and triples (6).

Ryan has worked out for numerous major league ball clubs in the last couple of weeks and, if selected, would be the first ever Night Hawk taken in the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft beginning on June 9.

A.I.I. Honors Three Lady Night Hawks

May 8, 2009

The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) honored three Lady Night Hawks on Friday afternoon when the 2009 All Star Team was named.

Senior first baseman Cassie Sparks was named to the team after leading TU in batting with a .360 batting average. Junior catcher Maggie Allen was one of two catchers selected and finished the season with a team high 24 runs batted in. The third Lady Night Hawk honored was junior shortstop Rachel Canganelli who led the team with 29 runs scored and 26 stolen bases.

TU went 2-1 as the host team at the 2009 A.I.I. softball tournament and was eliminated by Lambuth University on a walk off base hit.

TU Finishes Fifth

April 28, 2009

In the third and final round of play today at the 2009 AII Conference Tourney in Santee, CA, TU finished fifth after shooting a 933 (311/301/321) in the 54 hole event.

Junior Lance Williams rebounded, after a rough start in the first two rounds, to shoot a 77 (78/77/77) in the final round of play. Williams  led the Night Hawks in the final standings after tying for 17th overall. TU had two others finish in the top 20 with junior Jonathan Guess (81/72/80) and sophomore Ben Spooner (80/72/81) each shooting a 233. Thomas finished five strokes from fourth place overall.

TU ends it's season with optimism for a team that potentially returns all six members with additional experience gained.

Lady Night Hawks end Season in Daytona

April 5, 2009

At the Daytona Beach Golf Club in Daytona Beach, FL, the Lady Night Hawks closed out their 08-09 season in the Bash at the Beach hosted by Thomas University.

TU shot a 680 (349 & 331) over the two rounds and finished in last place in the field of fourteen. Sophomore Dayna Dixon led the Lady Night Hawks with 164 (82 & 82) and finished tied for 47th. Fellow sophomore Juliana Aurie shot a 165 (85 & 80) and also had a top 50 finish, placing 49th overall. Rounding out the scoring for TU were sophomores Laura Harper with a 173 (91 & 82) and Jayme Porter with a 178 (91 & 87).

The young Lady Night hawks will look to build upon this season of progress with a new crop of recruits to raise the level of competition for the upcoming season.

Men's Soccer Celebrates Season, Welcome Alumni

March 14, 2009

The men's soccer team celebrated the team and individual accomplishments of the 2008 season at the awards banquet on Friday night at the Plaza Restaurant in Thomasville.

Players received individual awards for standout performances both on and off the field, while the seniors were also honored for their contributions throughout the years. Team captain Jan Feldman and Cormac Finn received the Captains award for their work as leaders over the past year. Freshman Matt Tanner received the Most Improved Player award for his continued development throughout the season. Sophomore Marc Musto who holds a 4.0 GPA was honored with Scholar-Athlete Award for his extraordinary contribution in the classroom. Two awards, Most Valuable Offensive Player and Most Valuable Defensive Player, are voted on by the players and coaching staff. In a very tight vote, Luciano Lorca was named the teams top offensive player after finishing with 5 goals and 8 assists. Lorca was also named to the A.I.I. All Tournament Team and First Team All A.I.I. Feldman was named the top defensive player after starting all 18 of the teams game in the net, compiling 113 saves and 4 shutouts. Sophomore Anthony Terrou was awarded by the coaching staff the John Rainey Excellence Awards for his outstanding performance both on and off the field as a representative of the men's soccer program. To close out the evening three seniors; Finn, Roger Ketchum and Jono Williams were presented with slide show with pictures of their TU soccer career and their game jerseys.

This afternoon the team welcomed back the Night Hawk stars of the past to the Wendy's Soccer Complex for the annual Alumni Game. Friends and families enjoyed the action while eating food that was generously provided compliments of the University Advancement office. Photos are available by clicking on the link below.

TU will kick off the 2009 season against NCAA DII University of West Florida on Sunday August 30, 2009 in Pensacola, FL and is in full spring training for the remainder of the semester.

Women's Soccer Awards Banquet & Alumni Weekend

March 14, 2009

Last night at the Plaza Restaurant in downtown Thomasville, the Lady Night Hawks honored individuals for their performances during the 2008 season and celebrated the success off the team both on and off the team.

Senior captains Mandy Ballinger and Naama Wolf received the Captains award after serving as the leaders of the program for the last three years. Junior Tiffany Parker was awarded the Most Improved Player by the coaching staff while Ballinger was named the team Scholar Athlete. Freshman Casey Ponder was voted by her peers and the coaching staff Most Valuable Offensive player after scoring seven goals and being named Honorable Mention All A.I.I. Wolf then received the Most Valuable Defensive player award and was also named by the staff as the recipient of 2008-09 Excellence Award. Wolf was named to the All A.I.I. First Team for her the outstanding season she put together. Ballinger, Wolf and Paya George were honored to close out the evening as the seniors were presented their game jerseys and watched a slide show with pictures recognizing their career as Lady Night Hawks.

This afternoon the team welcomed back the Lady Night Hawk stars of the past to the Wendy's Soccer Complex for the annual Alumni Game.
