Tania Black was named head coach softball coach in September of 2005. In only her second season at the helm, Black guided the Lady Night Hawks to the NAIA National Tournament finishing the season with a 25-20 mark and a final NAIA Top 25 of ranking of 13. The national tourney appearance was the programs third in the past four years. During her first year TU finished 18-15 overall and lost in the regional toournament.

The team has not only scene success on the field but it has also been stellar in the classroom with seven players from the 2007 team being named Academic All Americans. "Individual and team GPA goals are set at the beginning of every fall, it's nice to see that setting goals and hard work is paying off", said Balck. "We hope to continue to be as strong in the classroom as we are on the field".

Black enjoyed an outstanding playing career at Thomas, after transferring from Indian River Community College where she was a NJCAA All American, helping guide the Lady Night Hawks to the 2004 NAIA National Championship. In her senior year she led the team with a .566 batting average and was second in home runs with 11, earning her NAIA 1st Team All America honors. Over her two seasons for the Lady Nigh Hawks she batted .496 with 16 home runs while driving in 98 runs, in 2003 Black was also selected as a NAIA 3rd Team All American. Coach Black also was extremely successful in the classroom, earning Academic All American Honors in both her seasons at TU.

 In addition to having served as an assistant for the Lady Night Hawks, Black also served in the same capacity for the Duncan Bombers in Duncan, B.C. Canada. Coach Black's teaching ability was also recognized by the YMCA who selected her in the summer of 2005 to coach their U18 All Star Team.

Born in Duncan, B.C. Canada. Black received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Thomas University in May 2005 and is currently working towards completion of a second Bachelor's Degree.
