Williams Wins Individual Title At Eagle Invitational

TU sophomore golfer Lance Williams (217, 73/73/71) won the individual title at the 2008 Eagle Invitational, played in Daytona Beach, FL at the Pelican Bay Golf Club.

Williams becomes the first TU golfer in the history of the program  to win an outright title after going one over par in the thirty six hole tournament. Previously, the highest finish for a Night Hawk was in September of 2006 when Williams tied for the individual title at the Wilmington Island Intercollegiate. It was his first tournament at the collegiate level. The Night Hawks finished sixth with a 919 (309-305-305) twenty three strokes off the lead.

Thomas will now take the next month to prepare for the 2008 Region 14 tournament to be played April 14-15 at the Lake Wales Country Club in Lake Wales, FL.

TU Fourth At FAMU Invitational

March 2, 2008

Thomas University Golf finished fourth with a 615 (308 & 307), 39 over and 33 strokes from the champion Bethune-Cookman College (582) on Sunday afternoon in day two of the 2008 FAMU Invitational at the Killearn Country Club in Tallahassee, FL.

Sophomore Lance Williams finished tied for third overall with a 145 (71 & 74), seven strokes off the top, to lead the way for the Night Hawks. TU had one other player finish in the top 10, sophomore Jonathan Guess finished tied for seventh with 149 (76 & 73).

Thomas returns to the links on Saturday March 15 as they travel to the Pelican Bay Country Club in Daytona Beach, FL to participate in the Eagle Invitational hosted by Embry-Riddle University.

Johnson & Wales Wins TU Invitational

Johnson and Wales University was at a different level than the rest of the field at the TU Invitational, winning the two round tournament by 45 strokes. JWU shot a 270 in round two and finished with a 550 (270 & 280), 26 under par over the two rounds of action at the Kinderlou Forest Country Club in Valdosta, GA.

Sophomore Jess Houston from Johnson and Wales led the 71 man field with a 133 (69 & 64) over the two rounds. The top five were rounded out by three other members of the JWU golf team. Sophomore David Vanegas (135, 68 & 67), junior David Tobon (140, 70 & 70) and senior Nick Zappin (144, 75 & 69) finished second, third and fourth respectively. The fifth member of the Johnson and Wales team, sophomore Daniel Weissenberg (148, 73 & 75), also finished in the top 10 in a tie for ninth. Savannah College of Art & Design's freshman Tom Hayes (145, 72 & 73) and Warner Southern College's freshman Michael Kartrude (145, 76 & 69) finished tied for fifth, rounding out the All Tournament Team.

Berry College finished in second  with a 595 (308 & 287), forty five strokes of the mark and nineteen over par. SCAD (598, 304 & 294), St. Leo University (606, 307 & 299) and Shorter College (607, 309 & 298) rounded out the top five.

TU finished in ninth shooting a 618 (314 & 304), 42 over par. Sophomore Lance Williams finished tied for 13 with a 149 (78 & 71) after going one under in round two. Freshman Ben Spooner finished in the top 30 shooting a 156 (77 & 76).

The Night Hawks will be back on the greens on Saturday March 1 as they compete in the FAMU Spring Invitational at the Killearn Country Club in Tallahasse, FL.

Johnson & Wales With Impressive Lead After Day One At TU Invitational

Johnson and Wales University (Miami, FL) has impressively separated themselves from the field after day one of the TU Invitational shooting a 280 (-8) on Sunday morning at the Kinderlou Forest Country Club in Valdosta, GA. JWU has a 24 stroke lead over the second place Savannah College of Art & Design Bees (Savannah, GA) with a 304 (+16). The Webber International University Warriors (Babson Park, FL) round out the top three with a 306 (+18).

TU is currently in ninth place with a 314 (+26). Freshman Ben Spooner and sophomore Jonathan Guess both led the way for the Night Hawks with a 77 after one round of play. Sophomore Lance Williams is one stroke off the team lead with a 78.

Day two of the TU Invitational continues on Monday at the Kinderlou Forest Country Club in Valdosta, GA. Tee off is scheduled for 9AM.

Williams Leads TU At Chick-fil-A Invitational

Sophomore Lance Williams led TU with a 147 (73 & 74) over two rounds at the 2007 Chick-fil-A Invitational, finishing sixteenth overall, while the Night Hawks finished eighth overall with a 598 (296 & 302) in a field of twenty four. Thomas finished three over for the tournament, thirty nine strokes off the champion Oklahoma Christian University (559).

Thomas finished day one in third place (296) one stroke behind the second place team. Day two saw the Night Hawks shoot a 302 nineteen strokes off the leader and eventual champion OCU. TU had the top finish for any team in region 14, with a three stroke difference over Savannah College of Art & Design (602).

TU will next travel to the Ironwood Golf Club in Lake Blackshear, GA to compete in the ABAC Invitational on Saturday October 27.

Night Hawks Tie For Second In Season Opener

The Thomas University Night Hawks Golf team got 2007 started on the right foot finishing tied for second place at the 2007 SCAD Invitational. TU shot a 589 (296 & 293) in the two rounds.

Thomas finished day one in third place but was able to climb into a tie for second on day two. Sophomore Lance Williams led the way for the Night Hawks, finishing with a 142 (73 & 69) good for a top five finish and a spot in the all tournament team. Two more Night Hawks finished in the top twenty as well, sophomores Patrick Lovely (75 & 73) and Michael Salmon (73 & 75)  each fired a 148 ending the 36 hole event tied for eighteenth. TU and Warner Southern College tied for the highest finish by a region 14 team.

Thomas will now get back to work in preparation for their next event as they travel to Lakeland, FL to participate in the Fire Classic, hosted by Southeastern University. The two round tournament tees off on Monday October 1 at 8AM.
