Williams Five Over Par In Third Round Of Nationals

May 24, 2007

Lance Williams closed out today with a 5 over par shooting a 77 for the round.  He finishes the tournament in 83rd place at 16 over par with a total score of 232. Congratulations on a fine year. "We are looking forward to great things from Lance in the coming years", said TU head coach Jack Megahee. "This program will be able to build upon the foundation that was laid by our guys this year".

 

Williams In Top 100 at NAIA Golf National Championship

Thomas University freshmen golfer Lance Williams finished round 2 at 8 over par with an 80 (155 two round score).  He is currently in 83rd place.  The tournament continues tomorrow at the Indiana National Golf Club.

 

Williams Qualifies For 2007 NAIA Golf National Championships

Freshman Lance Williams received an individual at large qualification for the 2007 NAIA Golf National Championships to be held May 22-25 at the Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Indiana.

Williams was one of only two golfers nation wide to receive a at large qualification and was the only Region 14 golfer to qualify as an individual. He becomes the first golfer in TU history to represent the university at a golf national championship tournament. The freshman from Chiles High School in Tallahassee, FL led the Night Hawks to a fifth place finish at the 2007 Region 14 Championships last month after firing a 224 (74/75/75) in the three day tournament, finishing four strokes off the leader.

Three Region 14 teams qualified for the three day event. Johnson and Wales University received the Region 14 champion automatic bid, while Embry Riddle University and Savannah College of Art and Design qualified with at large berths.

 

5th Place Finish At Region 14 Tourney For Night Hawks

The Thomas University Men's Golf team placed fifth in the 2007 Region 14 Tournament at the Lake Wales Country Club in Lake Wales, FL this past Saturday thru Monday. TU scored 938 (314/318/306) in the three rounds of golf. Freshman Lance Williams led the Night Hawks with a 224 (74/75/75), four strokes off the leader. Finishing second for TU was freshman Michael Salmon with a 230 (76/81/73).

Thomas concluded the regular season schedule and await their fate for further post season play.

 

TU Finishes 13th At Marine Corps Invitational

TU Golf finished 13th in a field of 32 at the 36th Annual Marine Corps Invitational in Camp Lejeune, NC. The Night Hawks shot a 886 (279, 295, & 312) over the three rounds of play. Fellow freshman Lance Williams (69, 73, & 79) and Jonathon Guess (70, 76, & 75) led the way for TU with a 221, finishing tied at 35 overall. Freshman Michael Salmon (69, 72, & 81)  finished tied for 40th with a 222, giving the Night Hawks three finishers among the top 50 individuals. A total of 162 golfers competed in the three round event.

Thomas will now turn it's attention to the 2007 NAIA Region 14 Championship at the Lake Wales Country Club in Lake Wales, FL. The three day event begins Sunday April 15 and runs thru Tuesday April 17.

 

Williams Leads Night Hawks

Freshman Lance Williams finished second overall in a field off 63 with a 68, one over, helping TU to a tie for seventh place overall in a field of twelve. Williams held the overall lead entering round three after firing a 70 and 72. He shot a 75 in the last 18 for the second place finish. The Night Hawks finished with a 923 overall (313-301-309).

TU will next travel to Camp Lejeune, NC on Saturday March 31 to participate in the Marine Corps Invitational.

 

Johnson & Wales Wins TU Men's Winter Invitational, TU Fifth

Johnson & Wales University shot a 287 in round two of the TU Men's Winter Invitational at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club to take the team championship with a 583. JWU was paced by David Vanegas who shot another 66, finishing with a 132 overall and 12 under to take the individual championship. Saint Leo University finished as the runner up with 592 after stroking a 294 on day two. Embry Riddle University (597), Savannah College of Art & Design (601) and Thomas University (608) rounded out the top five. Jacob Halligan (143, SLU), Sam Aiden (144, EWC), Will Loweth (145, SHC) and Frank Vanes (145, SCAD) rounded out the top five individuals.

TU shot a 309 on day two finishing in fifth place with a overall score of 608. Freshman Lance Williams led the Night Hawks in day two finishing with a 73 while shooting a 146 overall, good for a tie for sixth place.

Three Tied For Lead After Day One Of TU Men's Winter Invitational, TU Fifth

Embry riddle University, Johnson and Wales University, and Savannah College of Art & Design all finished round one of the TU Men's Winter Invitational at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club tied for first place with a 296. The host Night Hawks finished with a 299 in fifth place. David Vanegas from Johnson and Wales is the overall leader with a 66. Jonathan Guess led the way for TU with a 71 finishing tied for fourth

Men's & Women's Golf To Host TU Winter Invitational

Thomas University Men's & Women's Golf teams will be hosting the 2007 Thomas University Winter Invitational at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, GA on Monday February 26 and Tuesday February 27. Eight institutions will be competing for the championship in the men's field and four in the women's.

 

Night Hawks Ranked For First Time In Program History

December 21, 2006

The TU Men's Golf team is ranked 20th in the NAIA Top 25 poll for the first time in the program's history. The poll, released December 8, has Thomas ranked just 2 spots behind Region 14 foe Embry Riddle, and 9 spots behind Region 14 powerhouse Johnson and Wales. The Night Hawks have finished in the top 4 in 3 of 4 tournaments during the Fall.

"I am so proud of these guys, and this program, to achieve such an honor. Now we have to look to sustain this high level of play and make it to the National Tournament in May", said Coach Jack Megahee.

The next ranking will be released March 1, 2007. TU gets the 2007 season started on Monday February 26 as they host the Thomas University Winter Invitational at the Kinderlou Golf course in Valdosta, GA.

 

Men's Golf Ties For Third

October 31, 2006

Men's golf traveled to the Cross Creek Country Club in Seneca, SC to participate in the Southern Wesleyan Invitational and finished in a third place tie after shooting a 627 over the 36 holes.

In day one TU was led by freshman Lance Williams with a 75, overall he led Thomas with a 152.  Fellow freshman Michael Salmon paced the Night Hawks in day two with a 76. The third place tie now gives TU three top four finishes in four tournaments this year.

This was the last tournament of the fall for men's golf, they return to the greens February 27, 2007 as they host an outstanding field at the Thomas University Winter Invitational at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, GA.

 

TU Golf Places Fourth

October 17, 2006

In a weather shortened tournament TU golf finished in a fourth place tie at the Chic-Fil-A Invitational hosted by Berry College at the Coosa Country Club in Rome, GA. The Night Hawks shot 299 as a team, seven strokes off tournament winner, Oklahoma Christian University.

Freshman Patrick Lovely led the way for TU with a 72, while fellow freshman Lance Williams finished with a 73. Their scores were good enough for top ten finishes, giving Thomas back to back tournaments with two top ten finishers. For the first time in program history all five golfers shot in the seventies.

The Night Hawks will next travel to the Cross Creek Country Club in Seneca, SC to participate in the Southern Wesleyan Invitational.

 

Penalty Costly For Night Hawks

October 3, 2006

The Night Hawks men's golf team once again had a strong outing as they shot a 613, finishing ninth in a field of nineteen teams in Haines City, FL at the WIU Grenelefe Invitational. A penalty against a TU golfer during the first round cost the team fourteen points, the points were the difference between a first place tie and a ninth place finish.

Thomas was led by freshman Lance Williams (73-70, 143), finishing third in the field. The finish was William's second straight top three finish. Freshman Jonathan Guess (77-71, 148) finished in a five man tie for sixth, giving the Night Hawks two top ten finishers for the first time in program history.

TU will look to continue their hot start as they will next travel to the Coosa Country Club in Rome, GA to participate in the Chic-Fil-A Invitational hosted by Berry College.

 

Williams Leads Night Hawks

September 13, 2006

The Night Hawks men's golf team got their season off on the right track finishing fourth in a field of 12 teams at the Savannah College of Art & Design's Wilmington Island Intercollegiate. TU was lead by freshman Lance William's two under par (70-70, 140), good enough for first place individual tie in the field of 70 plus players. Williams lost medalist honors in a sudden death playoff, this marked the first time in TU golf history that player competed for such honors. Freshman Michael Salmon also had a stand out performance for the Night Hawks, firing rounds 72 & 74 for 146 overall. The freshman duo paced TU to an overall finish of 602.

Thomas will be back on the links on Monday October 1 as they head to the Grenelefe Resort in Haines City, FL to compete in the Webber International University Invitational.
