The Royals' bats provided starting pitcher Ben Shockey with seven runs in the first two innings and had to hold off multiple rallies from the Night Hawks to advance in the tournament.
Warner scored three runs off of four four hits and two Thomas errors in the first inning. The Royals would score four more runs in the second as Wes Lowry, Mark Davis, and Jason Caldwell had RBI singles to give Warner a quick 7-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth the Eagles pulled away for good scoring five runs on six hits and capitalizing on two Thomas errors. Loyola Sweeps TU
February 4, 2007
Thomas University Baseball (4-4) was swept in a double header on Sunday afternoon in New Orleans, LA by the host Loyola College Wolfpack (2-3) to end their road trip 1-3.
In game one, TU gave up two runs in the first but was able to get one back in their half of the second on a run scoring base hit by junior third baseman Ken Zarrillo (2-2, 1RBI). That would be the closest Thomas would come as Loyola put the game away with five runs in the fourth and fifth innings for the 7-1 victory. Junior pitcher Kyle Palmer (1-1) took the loss on the mound for Night Hawks going 4 1/3 innings and allowing seven runs, six earned, on eleven hits.
The TU gloves failed to show up for game two, committing four errors in a 3-2 loss. Thomas took the early lead in their half of the first with a run scoring single by freshman designated hitter Tyler Braddock (2-4, 1 RBI). In the bottom of the first TU allowed three runs on one hit and three errors leading to the early deficit. An RBI single in the top of the fifth by senior shortstop Eric Johnson (1-3, 1RBI, 1 BB) got the Night Hawks within one but that would be all the runs that TU would be able to plate as the Wolfpack shut the door the rest of the way to hold on for the victory. A solid improved performance by senior pitcher Jared Carter (0-2) was wasted as he went six innings allowing three unearned runs on three hits and striking out four.
Thomas now returns home to welcome NAIA #3 Embry Riddle University to Varnedoe Stadium on Friday February 9 at 4PM for game one of a three game series.
Baseball Splits On Road
February 3, 2007
The Night Hawks (4-2) split a double header this afternoon in New Orleans, LA losing game one 5-4 on costly late inning errors to the NAIA #5 Auburn University at Montgomery Senators (3-0) and then cruised to a 6-2 victory in the night cap over the host Loyola University Wolfpack(0-3).
Freshman designated hitter Tyler Braddock (2-2, 1RBI, 2BB) gave TU the lead in the third inning of game one when he doubled in senior short stop Eric Johnson (1-2, 2R, 1BB, 1SB), after a two out single and stolen base got him into scoring position. The Night Hawks added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth when senior center fielder Allen Nalls and senior right fielder Justin Majors both scored on Senators errors. AUM took a 4-3 lead in their half of the sixth with 4 runs on 2 hits and one error by the Night Hawks. Sloppy defense by TU allowed the Senators to add another run in the top of the seventh, scoring a run on no hits and two Night Hawk errors. Sophomore first baseman Matt Blanton (2-4, 1 RBI) got Thomas within a run on a two out base hit that drove in Johnson, who had walked and advanced to third on a Braddock base hit. The rally would come up short as AUM was able to close out the Night Hawks to end the game. Junior pitcher Cody Whitlock (1-1) took the loss for TU pitching six innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits.
TU coasted in game two, led by another impressive outing on the mound by senior pitcher Will Smeltzer (2-0) as he went all the way while allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six. The Night Hawks grabbed the lead in the top of the third with a run batted in by Majors, two by Braddock (1-2, 2 RBI) and one by freshman left fielder Ruben Rodriguez (2-3, 2R, 2RBI). Thomas added another run in the fifth and sealed the game with a home run by Rodriguez in the seventh. The Wolfpack would get back two runs in the bottom of the seventh before TU could close out the game.
"We made things complicated for ourselves with our gloves", said TU head coach Mike Lee. "AUM is a good team, we can not give them chances because of errors".
