The program is a bridge program designed for the medical laboratory technician/clinical laboratory technician. A student must possess an Associate Degree from a NAACLS accredited MLT/CLT program and national MLT/CLT certification. To achieve junior status at Thomas University, a student must take approximately one semester of core courses and must pass the Critical Writing, Reading, and Thinking Exam (CWRITE). Each spring semester, a group of students will begin a structured curriculum that includes on line courses, face-to-face courses, and supervised clinical experience. These courses will provide the skills needed by the coming generation of Clinical Laboratory Scientists. Students graduating with the B.S. degree from Thomas University in CLS will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination in Clinical Laboratory Science. Successful completion of the exam will lead to certification as an CLS.
For more information, contact Jill Dennis, Clinical Laboratory Science Program Coordinator, or call 800-538-9784 ext. 146.
Students must be admitted to Thomas University prior to admission to the CLS program. Contact the office of the Registrar or the TU website for assistance with university admission procedures. Please contact the CLS Program Director for advisement related to admission to the CLS program. The following items are required for admission to the Thomas University CLS program:
Registrar and CLS Program Director to determine transferability.
The clinical laboratory science student articulating to the baccalaureate level will be awarded 27 course credit hours for Clinical Laboratory Science. These credits are specific to the CLS Program and are awarded for technical/clinical courses successfully completed in a NAACLS accredited Associate Degree Medical Laboratory Technology program. These 27 credits will be held in escrow until the student has successfully completed 6 semester hours of required course work in the CLS program. Credits held in escrow will then be placed on the transcript. The applicant must provide the necessary materials to establish proof of compliance with the articulation criteria at the time of admission. These materials include the following:
The maximum number of CLS students accepted each year is twelve. Students will be admitted in order of admission requirements completion. If more than 12 students apply to the CLS program, an alternate list will be generated. Students may be admitted as alternates provided they have met basic CLS program admission requirements. Any student readmitted into the CLS program will be readmitted as an alternate.
