On behalf of Thomas University's Office of Admissions, we welcome you and encourage you to review this site for helpful information and interesting facts all about admissions. Begin by selecting the appropriate tab below to learn more about your specific admissions procedure.
A freshman/first time applicant must submit the following items before an admissions decision can be made:
*Thomas University does not require SAT or ACT scores for admission decisions to be made. Students who do not have SAT scores of 500 or above on the Critical Reading and 500 or above on the Math portion, or an ACT composite of 21 or higher will be required to take the Thomas University Placement Exam so that it can be determined as to what college level English and Math they should be placed in.
What Happens After I Am Accepted to Thomas University?
All fully accepted students will be contacted by their assigned advisor leading up to the start of the semester they are attending (If needed, the placement exam will need to be completed before they are contacted). Registration can be done two ways: on-campus or via phone/email. Once you and your advisor have selected your course schedule, they will turn your paperwork in to the Registrar’s Office where it will be forwarded to the Financial Aid Office and then on to the Business Office…no more standing in long lines! You will receive your class schedule and statement in the mail shortly after you have registered (please note: if you have not yet completed your financial aid by this time, you will need to do so as soon as possible). Once done, all you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy your time until classes begin.
All new students are strongly encouraged to participate in the New Student Orientation. New Student Orientation is also available every semester on-line to accommodate our distance learners and those unable to attend the traditional on-campus orientation in fall. Registration packets with orientation information are mailed out to all students once accepted.
A transfer applicant must submit the following items before an admissions decision can be made:
If you transfer in with less than14 semester hours then you will also need to submit your official high school transcript/GED certificate for your file.
Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to a specific college or department. It is the student's responsibility to contact the appropriate academic department for additional admission requirements upon acceptance to the University granted by the Office of Admissions. These requirements can also be found on the website.

For all fully accepted* students the Registrar's Office will complete a transfer evaluation based on previous college coursework. This evaluation will indicate the transfer GPA on all work attempted and it will also identify courses that are used to fulfill Core Curriculum requirements. Notice of the need for the placement exam will also been done at this time and a student requiring the exam will need to schedule it before registration. All fully accepted students will then be contacted by their assigned advisor (*once their official credit evaluation has been completed by our Office of the Registrar) leading up to the start of the semester they are attending. When Do I Know What It Will Cost and How Do I Pay My Tuition?
All students are required to complete the financial aid process. You need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov . Thomas University’s school code is 001555. Your financial aid cannot be awarded until you have completed your admissions file (i.e.; provided TU with official transcripts from ALL institutions* you have attended). Once this is confirmed, the Office of Financial Aid will review your file for completeness and will process your financial aid. You will receive an award letter so you will know what you are eligible for.
Please note that you must provide the Office of Admissions with the names of ALL institutions you have attended. If not, the information will be identified during your financial aid process and put a hold on your receiving any aid.
After you receive your award letter you will also learn what your tuition balance owed is. You will be sent a statement from Business Office stating the amount you are responsible for. All students are required to pay their tuition by the first day of class. Students can also contact the Business Office to discuss their bill and make arrangements for payment.
When and How Do I Get My Text Books?
When you speak with your advisor you will be given the course name and number of what you have registered for. Your advisor will instruct you to contact the bookstore and they will order your text books for you. You can email the book store at ccourson@thomasu.edu to get this process started. The bookstore will instruct you on your options for payment (credit card, self pay, or charge to your financial aid). Your books will be shipped to you closer to the date of the semester you are starting (this could be approximately 1-2 weeks before classes start).
When and How Do I Log On To My Courses?
Every registered TU student automatically has a Blackboard account to access on-line courses, submit work, receive information and track their classes. You will not be able to log on to Blackboard until you have completed the registration process and the instructor has downloaded the course(s). Please note that although you may be complete and ready to go months before the start of the semester, it could be the week before classes start until you are able to access your courses. Included in your registration packet you will receive information on Blackboard and a full copy of the instructions.
Is There an Orientation I Need to Participate In?
All new students are strongly encouraged to participate in the New Student Orientation. New Student Orientation is available every semester on-line to accommodate our distance learners. You can access the orientation presentation ny clicking the Orientation tab at the top of this page.
Since I Am Not on Campus, WhoM Do I Contact if I Have Questions?
Even when you are done with the admissions process, you can always contact our office to assist you with any questions and/or concerns you have. If we do not have the answer you are looking for, we will direct you to the person that does. If you have course specific questions you will need to contact your instructor directly.

A transient student is a “visiting” student who wishes to take course work at Thomas University for one semester and then return to his/her “home” institution.
A transient applicant must submit the following items before an admissions decision can be made:
* Transient students are responsible for contacting their registrar to obtain a Transient Permission Letter to submit to TU. The Transient Letter will state what course or courses have been approved by their current institution and that the student is in good academic standing.
Enrollment as a transient student is limited to one consecutive semester. A transient student wishing to continue enrollment at Thomas University as a degree seeking transfer student must reapply as a transfer student and fulfill all transfer admission requirements.
Since transient students are “visiting” students financial aid is not guaranteed. Transient students will need to contact the Office of Financial Aid to discuss their options. All students are required to pay tuition before the first day of classes.

Q. What are the required SAT/ ACT scores?
A. Thomas University does not require SAT or ACT scores for admission purposes. Students that do not have SAT scores of 500 or above on the Critical Reading and 500 or above on the Math portion, or an ACT composite of 21 or higher will be required to take the Thomas University Placement Exam so that it can be determined as to what college level English and Math they should be placed in. Students who have not taken the SAT/ACT will be required to take the Thomas University Placement Exam as well. Transfer students who have a TU registrar-approved transferable college level English and Math credit are exempt from the placement exam. Students that do not have a transferable college level English and/or Math credit, and those who do not have the above SAT/ACT score requirements, are responsible for taking the placement exam as well. Please contact the Office of Admissions for testing dates and times.
Q. What is the deadline for admissions?
A. Thomas University does not have a published deadline for admissions. Students can apply as late as the start of the semester they wish to attend although this practice is not suggested. Please note there is no guarantee that a student who chooses to apply late will be able to complete the necessary requirements to complete their file in time to attend that semester. The office of admissions will work with all students regardless of when they apply, to assist them in completing their file but the rule of thumb is: the sooner the better so we can assure a smooth and stress-free transition for the student.
Q. What programs of study does TU offer?
A. Here is a list of programs of study that TU offers.
Undergraduate Academic Majors available at Thomas University
* Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree
Post-Baccalaureate Programs available at Thomas University
Graduate Academic Programs available at Thomas University
Q. What if I don’t see the program of study I was interested in on your list?
A. Just because we may not offer a program of study that you are interested in does not mean you should not attend Thomas University. Take advantage of our small teacher-student ratio and get a strong solid foundation for your first two years of study at a school that truly cares about you. Just because you may not be able to be with us for a full four years, does not mean you cannot be with us for your first two!
Q. I have attended more than one college but the classes all show on my most previous transcript, why do I need to provide transcripts from every school?
A. TU requires that you provide official transcripts from ALL colleges or universities you have attended to ensure that your academic file is complete. We also want to ensure that you receive all of the possible transferable credits you deserve. What another school could not transfer in, a new school may be able to do…that alone is worth it! Also, we must receive all transcripts in order for a student to be able to receive financial aid and/or loans. Please feel free to use our General Transcript Request Form to assist you with obtaining your official transcripts if you choose.*
* Please note that you will need to check with you the school(s) you are requesting from as to ensure they do not have additional requirements for transcript requests.
Q. Will there be a New Student Orientation Program?
A. Yes. All new students will be invited and are strongly encouraged to attend the New Student Orientation and Priority Registration before the start of the semester (offered in the Fall).. At this time new students will have the opportunity to go through the registration process when campus is not too busy. New students will be able to “beat the rush” of the start of the semester and have a higher chance of securing a spot in their desired classes, have time to meet with advisors, get to know other students, and learn about important student policies. Also at this time, residential students will be allowed to move into the Residence Hall and get settled. All accepted students will receive a Fall Orientation packet mailed out before the event with more information. Email reminders will be sent as well. Our on-line New Student Orientation is also available every semester to accommodate our distance learners and those unable to attend the traditional on-campus orientation in fall.
Q. I am not a resident of Georgia. Is it going to cost more for me to attend since I am an out-of-state student?
A. No. TU does not charge out of state tuition, so whether you live in Georgia or elsewhere in the U.S. you pay the same tuition.
Q. Does Thomas University offer student housing?
A. Yes. Thomas University offers student housing on a limited basis. Please note that all students wishing to live on campus MUST SUBMIT an additional application for student housing. Students choosing to live in campus housing are not assured a space just by completing an admission application. Residence hall housing is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications for student housing are not issued until a student’s admission file is complete. Applications for student housing are issued by the Office of Admission. Please contact the Office of Admissions for more information, or if you have any questions.
Q. Am I required to live on campus?
A. Thomas University does not require students to live on campus. Alternate student housing arrangements are fine, but will be the sole responsibility of the student.
Q. Are there places on campus to eat?
A. Thomas University has The Hawk’s Nest, a great on-campus cafeteria that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Mondays – Thursdays (we do not have class on Fridays so the Hawk’s Nest is closed). We do not require students to have meal plans, so students are free to eat on campus or one of the many dining establishments in town. Thomas University is centrally located in town so shopping, dining and entertainment are all within a 5-10 minute drive.
Q. What about transportation? May freshmen have cars on campus?
Yes, all students (including freshmen) are allowed to have cars on campus. The Thomas University Residence Hall is actually located 2 miles from the classroom area on campus so transportation is a must. Parking at and around campus will be one of the last things you’ll worry about. Our campus is fairly compact so students can easily walk from one classroom building to another in the allotted time in between classes.
Q. What kinds of computing facilities are available? Should I bring my own computer?
Students may bring their own computers for their residence hall rooms. All of the Residence halls have access to the Internet. However, if you choose not to bring your own computer, there are centrally located computer labs on campus. E-mail accounts and Internet use are free.
Q. Can I visit campus?
Thomas University offers Campus visits Monday through Friday. We encourage you to visit during the week, while our classes are in session. This gives you the chance to receive a more accurate impression of a typical day here at TU. TU Campus Visits will also allow you the perfect opportunity to tour our beautiful campus, meet with your admissions representatives, talk with financial aid, check out student life, and learn more about the program of study you are interested in.
