Violin and Guitar Friday
On Friday, October 17 at 12:00 noon, Arts for the Community at Thomas University presents Silvania featuring award-winning violinist Tania Moldovan and guitarist Silviu Ciulei as part of their Friday at Noon series in Balfour Chapel of Thomas University located at 1501 Millpond Road in Thomasville, GA.
The duo was formed in the winter of 2012 at Florida State University's College of Music where Tania and Silviu first met. Although a recently formed ensemble they have already performed at important music festivals and concert series including the 2014 Taneycomo Festival Orchestra in Branson, MO and the 2014 East Carolina University Summer Guitar Festival and Competition in Greenville, NC.
Both performers are natives of Romania and began their musical studies at age six. Tania is currently a doctoral student, and Silviu recently graduated with his doctorate from at Florida State University’s College of Music.
In her free time, miss Moldovan makes jewelry, takes pictures, and admires nature’s imperfections, and in addition to being a classical and flamenco guitarist, Silviu speaks five languages fluently and is also a fine flamenco singer.
Friday's program will include works by Paganini, Saint Saëns, Piazzolla and others and the combination of pristine violin tone and classical guitar warmth reveals an unmistakably fresh color that subconsciously suggests a rebirth of the music into the soul of the audience.
The concert is free and open to the public, and a complimentary luncheon will follow the performance. For additional information visit thomasu.edu/actu or call 229-227-6964.
