Arts for the Community at Thomas University

ACTU’s mission is to combine the gifts and energies of Thomas University personnel and students (Act One) with those of community members (Act Two) to provide excellent arts events for the community. For this reason, we have named this organization ACTU – Act Two: Arts for the Community at Thomas University.

Our activities include the following:


Sundays at Four

"Sundays at Four" offers monthly concerts that feature local and regional artists performing a wide range of musical styles. These concerts are usually held at the Thomasville Cultural Center.

 Fridays at Noon

"Fridays at Noon" offers bi-monthly lunch concerts that include a complimentary luncheon and feature regional and occasionally national performing artists in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church.

TU Book Club

The Thomas University Book Club began in the fall semester of 2003 under the sponsorship of the English Department. The club is open to students, faculty, staff, and the community as way to come together to discuss books of current interest. The club meets in the TU Campus Center each month. Quite a Year for Plums by notable local author Bailey White.

Tuesday, January 19 at 7 p.m. We will meet at the home of Betty Claire Neill--108 Glen Eagle Circle in the Fairways. Bonnie Woodbery will lead the discussion of this funny and thought-provoking novel by the famous Thomasville author .


Thomasville Singers and Thomasville Chamber Singers

This is a community chorus with weekly rehearsals on Monday nights. Participation requires the ability to sing on pitch and a desire to improve singing skills.  The Chamber Singers are a smaller choir performing more challenging.


Jazz Ensemble

Weekly rehearsals are open to all as a way to explore both traditional and modern jazz standards with an emphasis on improvisation and performances throughout the region.


 Theatre

The TU Theater features annual productions open to all. Production include a musical revue in the fall, and a drama in the spring usually performed at the TU Playhouse.


 Visual Arts

An annual exhibit at the Cultural Center showcases ACTU art and courses available for students and the community in digital photography, drawing, painting and more.
