The safety of the campus and TU students is an important priority to the entire campus community. We encourage our students to take basic simple precautions:
- Walk with friends after dark
- Lock your car doors
- Have your keys in hand as you to walk to your car
- Report any crime to a campus safety officer or the local police
We employ off-duty police officers to patrol our campus, many of whom are in our own TU Criminal Justice program. Our officers have all the jurisdictional authority granted to them in performing their law enforcement jobs. In other words, they do have authority to carry weapons and arrest. TU has a good working relationship with local and state authorities, and if the situation warrants, the local authorities are called to assist.
Emergency Response and Evacuation Procedures
Thomas University has created an emergency response plan to guide decisions necessary and dictate the parties responsible for action in the case of an emergency. This document is available upon request from the Director of Campus Communications, 229-227-6903 Ext. 1109
Although Thomas University feels that its campus is safe, we do understand the importance of promptly notifying students in the event of an emergency. It is imperative that all students understand that this requires cooperation on their part.
- providing admissions with an emergency contact information
- reporting any incident requiring immediate attention
If an emergency involves IMMEDIATE potential or actual harm to yourself or others, CALL 911
Two emergency phone poles are located on campus. One is located in the upper quad, and the other in the lower quad.
In all other situations occurring between 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., call the Director of Campus Communications at (229)-977-1449. After 5:00 p.m., call Campus Security at (229)-977-3444 or Director of Maintenance at (229)-221-3040.
