Campus Safety

The safety of the campus and TU students is an important priority to the entire campus community. We encourage our students to take basic simple precautions. We encourage you to walk with friends after dark, lock your car doors, and have your keys in hand as you to walk to your car. We also encourage reporting any crime to a campus safety officer or the local police.

We employ off-duty police officers to patrol our campus, many of whom are in our own TU Criminal Justice program. Our officers have all the jurisdictional authority granted to them in performing their law enforcement jobs. In other words, they do have authority to carry weapons and arrest. TU has a good working relationship with local and state authorities. If the situation warrants, the local authorities are called to assist.

Emergency Response and Evacuation Procedures

Thomas University has created an emergency response plan. This document guides decisions necessary and dictates the parties responsible for action in the case of an emergency. This document is available upon request from the Director of Campus Communications. Although Thomas University feels that its campus is safe, we do understand the importance of promptly notifying students in the event of an emergency. It is imperative that all students understand that this requires cooperation on their part. Specifically, we need a contact number in case of an emergency. Also, students should report any situation that requires immediate attention. Specifically, if an emergency involves IMMEDIATE potential or actual harm to yourself or others: CALL 911. In addition, two emergency phone poles are located on campus. One is located in the upper quad, and one in the lower quad. In all other situations occurring between 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., call the Director of Campus Communications at (229)-977-1449. After 5:00 p.m., callCampus Security at (229)-977-3444 or Director of Maintenance at (229)-221-3040.

Our campus crime statistics reflect the extent to which our campus is a safe, secure environment. Click here for the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.
