Men's Golf Finishes Season Tied for 7th at Sun Conference Tournament

Men's golf finished their season tied for 7th place at the Sun Conference Tournament played the last two days at the North Palm Beach Country Club in West Palm Beach, FL.

Thomas shot a 899 (302/304/293) over the three rounds of action. Junior Sam Jackson fired a 218 (70/75/73) and finished in a tie for eighth overall in the field. Jackson's round one score of 70 tied him for third lowest score over the first 18. Sophomore James Fletcher was the only other Night Hawk in the Top 20, ending play in a tie for 17th overall after shooting a 222 (74/74/74). Fellow sophomore Stone Cowie (227, 79/73/75), freshman Taylor Yohner (232, 79/82/71) and sophomore Hunter Ivins (239, 79/83/77) rounded out the scoring for the Night Hawks.

Jackson was the only TU golfer selected to the ten person All Sun Conference team. Click HERE for All Sun Conference Team Picture.

 

TU Golf Wraps Up Regular Season at Sun Conference Major

TU Golf wrapped up their regular season schedule in the second Sun Conference Major of the season, played the last two days at the Sun N' Lake Golf Club in Sebring, FL.

Men's golf shot a 894 over the three rounds of action, good for a seventh place finish. TU was four shots from a top four spot. The Night Hawks were led by sophomore Stone Cowie who fired a 218 (72/71/75,+2), finishing in a tie for tenth overall. Freshman Taylor Yohner (73/74/76,+7) and junior Sam Jackson (67/73/84,+8) both finished in the top 25.

The Night Hawks will now prepare for the 2013 Sun Conference Championships to be played April 29-30 at the North Palm Beach Country Club in West Palm Beach, FL.

 

Thomas Golf 9th at First Sun Conference Major

March 12, 2013

Thomas Golf finished 9th at the Sand Shark Classic this afternoon, which is the first Sun Conference Major this season.

TU shot a 920 (310/309/301) in the three rounds of action. The Night Hawks improved by nine strokes from their opening round of play. Sophomore Stone Cowie finished eleventh overall after shooting a 223 (80/74/69). His 69 in round three tied him with two others for low score over the final 18. Junior Sam Jackson was the only other Night Hawk in the top 15, tied for 14th, with a 225 (73/76/76).

Men's golf will next compete in the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate March 22-24 at the Camp LeJeune Golf Club in Camp LeJeune, NC.

 

Night Hawks Win Georgetown Invitational

February 25, 2013

The Night Hawks won a rain shortened Georgetown Invitational this morning at the PGA World Village in St. Augustine, FL.

Thomas topped the field of five teams by fourteen strokes after shooting a 303 in one round of action. Junior Sam Jackson was the low medalist, ending his round at par (72, E). The other four Night Hawks all finished the round in the top ten overall.  Sophomore James Fletcher finished in a tie for third overall at four over par (76, +4).

TU will return to action on Sunday March 10th at the Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie, SC to begin their participation in their first Sun Conference Major Event of the year.

 

Men's Golf Sixth at Fire Invitational

February 10, 2013

Men's Golf opened their spring season with a sixth place finish in the Fire Invitational played the last two days at the Providence Country Club in Davenport, FL.

Sophomore Stone Cowie had his best performance of the year finishing in 4th overall after firing a 146 (72/74, +2). Four strokes separated Cowie from the top spot. Junior Sam Jackson finished tied for 10th with a 149 (72/77, +5). No other Night Hawk finished in the top 30.

Thomas will be back on the greens on February 25th when they open play in the World Golf Village Invitational played at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, FL.

 

TU Swing Coach Recognized

TU Men's and Women's Swing Coach Bill Connally was awarded the premier 2012 Georgia PGA Professional of the Year.

The award is one of the highest recognitions that Georgia PGA hands out on a yearly basis. It is based on the criteria of overall performance as a golf professional at his or her facility; level of service to his or her chapter, section, and the association; leadership ability; image and the ability to inspire fellow professionals; and promotion of golf. This achievement encompasses all aspects of being a golf professional — member service, teaching, image, leadership and overall performance.

 

Night Hawks Golf 7th at Wilmington Island Intercollegiate

The Night Hawks men's golf team finished seventh at the Wilmington Island Intercollegiate, played the last two days at the Wilmington Island Golf Club in Savannah, GA.

TU shot a 889 (295/298/296, +37) over the three rounds of action, finishing two strokes out of sixth and six strokes from a top five finish. Sophomore James Fletcher lead the Night Hawks with a 218 (74/71/73, +5), finishing tied for 11th. Junior Sam Jackson shot a 220 (73/74/73, +7) and finished in a tie for 18th.

Thomas will break for the remained of the Fall and will return to the greens on February 10, 2013 when they open play in the Southeastern University Fire Invitational to be played at the Providence Country Club in Davenport, FL.

 

South Carolina - Beaufort Takes Thomas University Fall Invitational, TU Third

October 2, 2012

The University of South Carolina - Beaufort took the title at the 2012 TU Fall Invitational after shooting a 586 (285/301, +10) over the two rounds of action played the last two days at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, GA. TU finished in third place, one stroke behind Runner Up Webber International University (592, +16).

Dylan Freeman (69/72, 141) of College of Coastal Georgia and Brian Langley (65/76, 141) of USCB each finished -3, topping the leader board with a two stroke advantage. Freeman took home Individual Medalist honors with a par on the fourth playoff hole. The Night Hawks shot a 593 (299/294, +17) over the two days and recorded a five stroke improvement on day two after ending round one in fourth. TU junior Sam Jackson (74/72) and sophomore Hunter Ivins (74/72)finished in a tie for seventh overall in the field of 61 golfers. Jackson and Ivins both shot a 72 on day two, ending their play at +2 with a 146. Sophomore Stone Cowie had a Top 15 finish with a 148 (75/73, +4).

TU will be back on the greens October 15-16 with their participation at the Wilmington Island Intercollegiate being played at the Wilmington Island Golf Club in Savannah, GA.

 

USC-B Leads TU Fall Invitational, Night Hawks Fourth

October 1, 2012

Fellow Sun Conference member, University of South Carolina - Beaufort leads the TU Fall Invitational after day one with a 285. The Night Hawks finished round one in fourth.

USCB shot a 285 in round one finishing at -3 and a ten stroke advantage over Southern Wesleyan University who shot a 295 (+7). TU finished day one in fourth with a 299 (+11) only five strokes out of second place. Junior Sam Jackson led the Night Hawks with a 74 (+2), only five strokes out of 2nd place. Brian Langley from South Carolina - Beaufort topped the table with after firing a 65 (-7) over the first 18 holes. Dylan Freeman from Coastal Carolina finished four strokes behind for the overall lead with a 69 (-3). Night Hawks sophomore Hunter Ivins finished tied for 8th with a 74 (+2) and sophomore Stone Cowie shot a 75 (+3) ending the day tied for 15th.

Action continues tomorrow at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, GA with a shotgun start set for a9:30AM.

Men's Golf 10th at CCG Invitational

September 18, 2012

Men's Golf opened their 2012-13 season with a 10th place finish at the College of Coastal Georgia Invitational played the last two days at the King and Prince Golf Club in Sea Island, GA.

TU shot a 925 over the three rounds of action. Sophomore James Fletcher was the Night Hawks low shooter with a 230 (80/73/77) and junior Sam Jackson finished two strokes behind at 232 (73/69/90).

The Night Hawks will hit the greens once again on October 1st when they host the Thomas University Invitational at the Kinderlou Golf Club in Valdosta, GA.
