Lady Night Hawks Final Two Games Cancelled

Lady Night Hawks softball have had their final two games of the season cancelled.
Albany State University contacted Thomas University on Monday evening to cancel their double header scheduled for 2PM tomorrow afternoon. Reason for cancellation was not announced. TU ends their season with a 26-23 mark and will only graduate two seniors.
TU Hammers Edward Waters in Double Header Sweep

TU (26-23) hammered Edward Waters College (6-31), 25-5 & 14-0, in a double header sweep this afternoon at Armory Field.
The Lady Night Hawks close out their season on Tuesday April 26 when they face Albany State University in a double header beginning at 2PM.
Softball Splits with Brewton Parker

Softball (24-23) split a Tuesday afternoon double header with the visiting Brewton Parker College Barons (36-14).
In game one TU topped BPC 4-3 behind a strong pitching effort by starting pitcher Ashley Werschmidt (7-7). The sophomore from Hiram, GA went all the way in the victory allowing three earned runs on five hits. With the Lady Night Hawks leading 3-0 in the sixth, freshman first baseman Anna Hall (1-3, RBI) drove in a fourth run that would prove to be the difference in the game. In the top of the seventh BPC would make things interesting by scoring three to make it a one run game before Werschmidt shut the door on the rally. Freshman right fielder Jessie Turner (2-3. R, RBI, HR) had a solo home run.
Game two was a dramatic pitchers duel that saw the Barons score the eventual game winning run in the top of the ninth for the 1-0 victory. The teams were able to combine for 13 hits but pitchers for both teams were able to buckle down and strand a total of fifteen runners on the base paths. Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair (10-13) took the tough loss after allowing one earned run in 4 1/3 innings of work.
TU is back in action on Thursday April 21st when they host Edward Waters College in a double header beginning at 2PM.
Lady Night Hawks Win on Senior Day

The Lady Night Hawks (23-22) picked up a pair of victories on Senior Day with a double header sweep, 2-1 (8 innings) & 10-2, of the visiting Talladega College Tornadoes (10-27).
Freshman starting pitcher Alexa Fair went all the way and struck out 11 batters in the game one victory. Junior Heather Marlowe (1-3, RBI) had a hit and drove in the game winning run in the eighth. Senior Brook Brown (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) drove in two runs in game two. Freshman starting pitcher Rachel Ivancic allowed one earned run in six innings of work for the victory.
In between games, Brown (Georgetown, SC) and fellow senior Danielle Valentino (Lake Mary, FL) were honored for their years of commitment, dedication and hard work as a part of the Lady Night Hawks softball program. The two are fine examples of what a student athlete should be, excelling not only in the classroom but also as a part of the university community with their involvement around campus. "We thank these young ladies for being a part of us", said TU head softball coach Bill Wilson. "They will be missed on and off the field. We wish them the best of luck in this next stage of their lives".
With only six games remaining Brown and Valentino will look to lead the way for TU as they enter the final stretch of the season. TU will next welcome Brewton Parker College for a double header on Tuesday April 19 at 2PM.
Spring Hill Double Header Cancelled

The double header against Spring Hill College scheduled for Friday afternoon has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict for Spring Hill College. The game will not be made up.
Softball will return to action on Saturday April 16 when they welcome Talladega College for a Senior Day double header beginning at 12PM.
TU Extends Win Streak to Four

TU (21-22) extended their win streak to four with a double header sweep of Young Harris College (2-30) on Saturday evening at Remington Park in Thomasville.
In game one Thomas picked up the 10-9 walk off victory. The Lady Night Hawks took game two 9-2.
The Spring Hill College Badgers will come to town on Friday April 8th for a double header beginning at 2PM.
Softball Sweeps Talladega

Softball (19-22) swept Talladega College (6-14), 3-0 & 10-2, in a double header on Sunday afternoon in Talladega, AL.
Freshman pitcher Racel Ivancic went all the way and struck out 11, limiting TC to only five hits, in a dominant 3-0 game one victory. Junior catcher Heather Marlowe (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) drove in two runs. Sophomore Kortney Campbell (2-2, RBI) contributed two hits and drove in a run. In game two, freshman pitcher Alexa Fair (8-12) was dominant on the mound and at the plate. Fair went all five innings in the run rule victory, surrendering two earned runs on four hits. At the plate she went 3-3 with three home runs and five runs batted in.
The Lady Night Hawks continue on the road this coming Thursday March 31, when they travel to Jacksonville, FL to face Edward Waters College in a double header beginning at 3PM.
Thomas Softball Swept by #22 AUM

Thomas Softball (17-22) was swept, 3-0 & 4-1, by NAIA #22 Auburn University - Montgomery (25-7) on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, AL.
AUM topped TU with a one hit 3-0 shutout in game one. Sophomore starting pitcher Ashley Werschmidt (5-6) was solid at the rubber for the Lady Night Hawks in the losing effort. Werschmidt went six innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits. In game two TU once again received a good effort from the mound, with freshman Alexa Fair (7-12) tossing six innings in the losing effort. Fair surrendered three earned runs on seven hits.
TU concludes their Alabama road trip tomorrow afternoon with a double header against Talladega College in Talladega, AL. First pitch is set for 2PM EST.
Lady Night Hawks Begin Road Trip With Split

The Lady Night Hawks (17-20) began a two day road trip with a split at Faulkner University (16-11) in Montgomery, AL. this afternoon.
TU dropped game one 3-1. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Werschmidt took the loss after tossing six innings and allowing three runs (one earned) on 3 hits while striking out four. Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair picked up the victory in the Lady Night Hawks 6-5 game two win. Fair threw three innings of one hit shutout ball. Junior Heather Marlowe (3-4) had three hits.
Tomorrow, TU continues their road trip when they face Auburn University - Montgomery in a double header beginning at 12PM.

TU (16-19) and Reinhardt University (22-8) split a Wednesday afternoon double header, 4-8 & 2-1 (9), at Armory Field.
The ladies will next travel to Montgomery, AL on Friday March 25th to face Faulkner University in a double header beginning at 3PM EST.

Softball (15-18) split a double header at the Georgia Southwestern University Hurricanes (14-19) on Thursday afternoon in Americus, GA.
GSW held the TU bats to only three hits in a 8-2 game one victory. The Lady Night Hawks committed four errors in the game, leading to five unearned runs for the Hurricanes. Freshman third baseman Brianna Dworak (2-3, 2B) had two hits. On the mound, freshman starting pitcher Alexa Fair (7-11) suffered the tough loss. Fair went seven innings and allowed eight runs (three earned) while striking out three.
The ladies bounced back in game two, slugging eight hits in a 5-3 victory. Eight different Lady Night Hawks had hits. Junior cather Heather Marlowe (1-3, 2 RBI), drove in two runs. Sophomore starting pitcher Ashley Werschmidt (5-5) picked up the complete game victory, allowing three earned runs on six hits.
Thomas will be back on the diamond Wednesday March 23, when they welcome Rheinhardt University to Armory Field for a double header beginning at 2PM.
Lady Night Hawks Lose in Silver Bracket Semi Final of GCI

The Lady Night Hawks (14-17) lost 8-1 to Oklahoma Christian University (17-7) in the Silver Bracket semi final of the 2011 Gulf Coast Invitational in Orange Beach, AL.
Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair (7-10) lasted only one inning in the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits. Freshman Brianna Dworak (1-3, 2B) and freshman Jessie Turner (1-3) each had a hit. Earlier in the day TU knocked off Freed-Hardeman University (3-6) ,4-3, to land them in the semi final game. Fair went all the way for the victory, striking out three along the way. Junior Morgan Howard (1-3, 3B, RBI) and senior Danielle Valentino (1-3, RBI) each drove in a run.
Thomas will continue on the road traveling to Americus, GA on Thursday Mach 17 to face NCAA DII Georgia Southwestern University in a double header beginning at 5PM.
TU Splits in Day Two Action at GCI

TU (13-16) split a pair of games in day two action of the Gulf Coast Invitational in Orange Beach, AL.
In game one, Thomas topped the University of Houston at Victoria Jaguars (11-6) 4-3. Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair (6-9) picked up the victory and went 2-4 at the plate. Senior Danielle Valentino (3-4) had three hits, while a pair of freshman, Anna Hall (2-3, RBI) and Jessie Turner (1-3, RBI) each drove in a run. TU battled in the second game of the day but fell 4-2 to Southern Nazarene University (19-5). Sophomore pitcher Ashley Werschmidt (4-5) took the loss. Fair (1-3, RBI) and freshman Sorrel Hale (1-1, RBI) each drove in a run.
The Gulf Coast Invitational concludes tomorrow with the start of bracket play. TU will enter the silver bracket and face Freed-Hardeman University in an elimination game beginning at 10AM EST. The winner will move onto the silver bracket semi finals at 4PM EST in search of a spot in the silver bracket championship game at 6PM EST.
Softball Drops Two in Day One of GCI

Softball (12-15) dropped two games today in day one of the 2011 Gulf Coast Invitational in Orange Beach, AL.
The Lady Night Hawks lost game one 5-0 to Lee University (9-3) managing only five hits in the game. Freshman third baseman Brianna Dworak (2-3) had two hits. On the mound, freshman starting pitcher Alexa Fair (5-9) allowed five earned runs over six innings in the loss. In the evening match up TU dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to Bethel University (6-2), after leading 4-3 in the seventh. Fair took the loss. Freshman Anna Hall (2-3) had two hits.
In day two action TU will face the University of Houston-Victoria at 2PM and Southern Nazarene University at 4PM.
Thomas Splits with Spring Hill

TU continues their road trip tomorrow as they open up play in the 2011 Gulf Coast Invitational in Orange Beach, AL. Softball will face Lee University at 11AM and Bethel University at 7PM in day one action.

The TU Lady Night Hawks (9-12 ) were swept in day two of the TU Round Robin Invitational this afternoon at Armory Field.
In game one, the ladies fell 5-4 to Warner University. Freshman Brianna Dworak (2-4, 2 RBI) and junior Heather Marlowe (2-3, RBI) each had two hits. Starting pitcher freshman Alexa Fair (5-6) took the loss. The afternoon match took nine innings to find a winner, with Faulkner University knocking off the Lady Night Hawks 5-4. Fair took the loss once again for TU. Dworak (2-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) hit a two run home run and sophomore Davy Vollmouth (2-4, SB) had two hits.
Softball will return to action on Thursday March 10 when they travel to Mobile, AL for a double header beginning at 2PM.
TU Softball Wins 2 in TU Round Robin Invitational

TU Softball (9-10) defeated Warner University 6-0 in game one this afternoon and defeated Faulkner University 2-1 in the final game of the day at the TU Round Robin Invitational played this afternoon at Armory Field.
Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair (5-4) had a complete game shutout in the first game of the day. At the plate she went 1-3 with a home run. Right fielder Davy Vollmouth had 2 hits, including a home run. Game two was called due to darkness after 5 1/2 innings. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Werschmidt picked up the victory, striking out two in five innings of work. Fair went 3-3 as a designated hitter. First baseman Anna Hall contributed two hits.
The round robin tournament concludes tomorrow with three games. TU faces Warner at 10AM and Faulkner at 2PM. Warner and Faulkner will face off at 12PM.
Softball Wins One of Three in Day Two of Shorter Invitational

Softball (7-10) won one of three games in Day Two of the Shorter University Inviational this afternoon in Rome, GA.
TU dropped the morning game 4-2 against Tennessee Wesleyan College (3-4). Feshman starting pitcher Alexa Fair suffered the complete game defeat. In game two, the host Shorter University Hawks (7-3) picked up the run rule victory by dropping TU 11-1 in five innings. Freshman pitcher Rachel Ivancic took the loss with five innings of work. Thomas avoided a winless weekend by dropping Martin Methodist College (9-6) 6-5 in the finale. Sophomore starting pitcher Ashley Werschmidt went 5 1/3 innings for the victory. Fair (1-3, 3 RBI, R, HR) picked up the save with 1 2/3 innings of work and also hit a three run home run. Sophomore Alyssa Bork (1-3, R, 2B) doubled and scored a run.
The Lady Night Hawks are back at home on friday March 4 when they welcome Warner University and Faulkner University for a round robin of games. Thomas will face Warner at 12PM and Faulkner at 4PM.
TU Swept at Shorter Invitational

TU (6-8) was swept in day one action at the Shorter University Invitational.
In game one the fans were treated to a thriller with the Lady Night Hawks falling to Montreat College (8-5) in 10 innings. Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair went all ten innings in the tough loss. Game two was not as kind to TU, falling 16-1 in a five inning run rule game to the University of Mobile (7-1). Freshman pitcher Rachel Ivanic took the loss.
Softball will look to bouonce back tomorrow when they face Tennessee Wesleyan College at 10AM, Shorter University at 2PM and round out the day against Martin Methodist College at 4PM.
Lady Night Hawks Sweep GSW

The Lady Night Hawks (6-6) swept the visiting NCAA DII Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes (6-10), 1-0 & 3-2, this afternoon at Armory Field.
Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair led the Lady Night Hawks to victory with a complete game four hit shut out of the Hurricanes in game one. Sophomore Davy Vollmouth (2-3, RBI, R, HR) drove in the games only run with a solo home run. In game two, it was Vollmouth who once again lifted TU with a run scoring double in the home half of the sixth to break a 2-2 tie. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Werschmidt picked up the victory with two innings of relief work.
TU begins play at the Shorter University Invitational on Friday February 25th, facing Montreat College at 2PM and the University of Mobile at 4PM.

Thomas softball (4-6) was swept by Brewton Paker College (7-2), 7-6 & 5-3, on Friday afternoon in Mt. Vernon, GA.
BPC took game one in walk off fashion plating the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an error. TU led by one entering the inning but allowed the tying and winning run to score. Freshman Brianna Dworak (2-2, 2 RBI, 2B, HR) had two hits and drove in two runs. Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair took the loss. The Lady Night Hawks were unable to avoid the sweep, falling 5-3 in game two. Dworak (2-3) and Davy Vollmouth (2-3, RBI, R) both had two hits. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Werschmidt took the loss.
The Lady Night Hawks return home on Tuesday February 22nd to face NCAA DII Georgia Southwestern University in a double header beginning at 2PM.
TU Sweeps Albany State

TU (6-4) swept the Albany State University Rams, 10-1 & 7-0, in a double header this afternoon in Albany, GA.
Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair picked up the game one victory and also was hot at the plate, going 3-3 with 3 doubles and four runs batted in. Senior Brook Brown (2-4) and freshman Jessie Turner (2-4) each had two hits. The Lady Night Hawks had twelve hits. In game two, freshman pitcher Rachel Ivanic was dominant in the one hit shutout victory. Freshman Brianna Dworak (2-4, RBI, 2B) and Turner (2-3, RBI, R) each drove in a run.
Thomas continues on the road Friday February 18 when they travel to Mt. Vernon, GA to face Brewton Parker College in a double header beginning at 1PM. The Savannah State University Tournament in which TU was set to play in on Saturday February 19 and Sunday February 20 has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
Softball Wins 3 at Reinhardt Invitational

Softball (4-4) won all three games in day two of the Reinhardt University Invitational today in Waleska, GA.
The Night Hawks defeated Emmanuel College 5-4 in the morning game. In game two TU knocked off Union College 6-4 and in a nine inning thriller picked up their third victory of the day by defeating Union once again by a score of 5-4.
TU will look to go above .500 for the first time this season on Wednesday February 16 when they travel to Albany, GA to face Albany State University in a double header beginning at 1PM.
Lady Night Hawks Go 1-2 in Day One of Reinhardt Invitational

The Lady Night Hawks (1-4) won one and lost two in day one of the Reinhardt University Invitational this afternoon in Waleska, GA.
TU dropped the opening game 7-2 to the host Reinhardt University Eagles (2-0) and followed up with a 4-1 victory over Montreat College (3-2). In the night cap, the Lady Night Hawks once again fell to the host team in a 7-3 loss.
Play continues tomorrow in Waleska with TU facing Emmanuel College at 9:30am and concludes play at the Invitational with match ups against Union College at 11:30am and 3:30pm.
TU Softball Swept in Season Opening Double Header

TU Softball (0-2) was swept in a season opening double header on Thursday afternoon at Armory Field by the visiting Savannah College of Art & Design Bees (3-1).
The Bees took game one 4-3 after pushing across the eventual game winning run in their half of the third. Freshman pitcher Alexa Fair (0-1) took the loss after going all seven innings and striking out eight. In game two, SCAD opened up a 4-0 lead in the third but TU struck back with two in their half of the inning on a base hit by sophomore Davy Vollmouth (1-2, 2 RBI). SCAD picked up an insurance run in their half of the fifth to make it a 5-2 ball game. TU came back to score a run in the fifth and once again make it a two run game but the umpires called the game at the conclusion of the inning due to darkness. Junior shortstop Morgan Howard (2-2, 2 R, BB) scored two runs and freshman designated hitter Alexa Fair (1-3, RBI, 2B) drove in a run. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Werschmidt (0-1) took the loss, tossing four innings and allowing four unearned runs on six hits.
Softball will be right back at it tomorrow as they travel to Waluska, GA to open up play in the Reinhardt University Invitational. TU will play three games facing Reinhardt at 1:30 PM, Montreat College at 3:30 PM and concluding the day with another match up against Reinhardt at 5:30 PM.
