Luckett Falls in Tie Breaker, Night Hawks 4th at A.I.I.

Senior men's golfer Matt Luckett fell tied for First overall and fell in a tie breaker playoff at the 2012 Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament played the last two days at the Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott, AZ. The Night Hawks golf team finished fourth overall.

Luckett ended his career at TU with one of his best performances after shooting a 213 (69/68/76), finishing at par in a six way tie for the overall lead. The senior from Norcross, GA fell in a four hole playoff ending his bid for the Individual Championship and a spot at the 2012 NAIA Men's Golf National Tournament. Luckett's 68 in round two placed him at the top of the leader board after two rounds of action. TU finished 14 strokes behind the Team champion, University of Victoria, with a 871 (289/284/298, +19) over the 72 holes. The Night Hawks were in third after round one but slipped to fourth over the next 36 holes. Freshman James Fletcher finished 9th overall at two over with a 215 (75/69/71). Sophomore Sam Jackson was the third Night Hawk in the top 15 overall with a 218 (70/74/74, +5). Senior Daniel DiFrancesco (75/73/77, 225, +12) and sophomore  Blake Hightower (80/78/79, 237, +24) rounded out the TU scoring.

Thomas ends their season fourth overall in the A.I.I. and next year will begin play in the Sun Conference.

 

Night Hawks Fall Short at Marine Corps Intercollegiate

The Night Hawks golf team fell short at the Marine Corps Intercollegiate, finishing tied for fifth out of a field of fifteen.

TU shot a 867 (282/303/282) over the three rounds of action, eight strokes from the top spot. Senior Matt Luckett finished tied for sixth overall after shooting a 212 (69/77/66).

Golf will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Daytona Beach, FL to compete in the Bash at the Beach being played April 14-15 at the LPGA International Legends Course.

 

Thomas Men's Golf Sixth at Eagle Invitational

March 20, 2012

Thomas men's golf finished sixth in a field of 13 at the Eagle Invitational, played the last two days at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, FL.

TU shot a 918 (307/305/306, +54) in the three rounds of action. Finishing ahead of three NAIA Top 20 Teams (#5 Northwood - FL, #14 Wayland - TX, #20 Tennessee Wesleyan) in the field. Sophomore Sam Jackson finished tied for sixth out of 70 golfers, ending the three rounds at six over par with a 222 (70/76/76), five strokes off the top of the Leader Board. Senior Matt Luckett shot a 226 (85/71/70, +10) and finished 12th overall. His 70 in round three led the field.

Men's golf returns to action on Friday March 30th when they open three days of play at the Marine Corps Intercollegiate in Camp Lejeune, NC.

 

Luckett's Second Place Finish Leads Night Hawks to Third at Georgetown College Invitational

Senior Matt Luckett finished second in the field and helped lead the Night Hawks to a third place finish at the Georgetown College Invitational played over the last two days at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, FL.

Luckett fired rounds of 70-74 (144, Par) and finished one shot behind the Invitational's Low Medalist. As a team TU finished six shots from the top spot after shooting a 598. Senior Daniel DiFrancesco was the second lowest scorer for the Night Hawks with a 150 (76-74, +6). Freshman James Fletcher had the team's low round on the second day, a 1 over par 73.

TU will be back on the greens on March 19th when they begin play in the Embry Riddle Eagle Classic to being played the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, FL.

 

Men's Golf 9th at Fire Invitational

February 14, 2012

Men's golf finished 9th out of 12 teams at the Fire Invitational played over the last two days at the Lake Region Yacht & Country Club in Winter Haven, FL.

TU shot a 920 (303/302/315) over the three rounds of action. The Night Hawks finished five strokes back from 8th and 53 from the top spot. Sophomore Sam Jackson finished tied for fourteenth overall with a 224 (70/78/76, +8), thirteen strokes from the top of the leader board. Senior Matt Luckett shot a 225 (73/72/80, +9) and also finished in the top 20 at 19th overall.

Thomas will next travel to the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, FL on February 27th to participate in the Georgetown College Invitational.
