2013 RECORD: 5-3-0





Claesson Named TSC Defensive Player of the Week

The Sun Conference office has named senior defender Hannah Claesson (Katrineholm, Sweden) as The Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week (September 23-29).

The senior defensive midfielder anchored a TU defense that allowed only one goal in three games while going 3-0 on the week. TU limited their opponents to only five shots on goal in the three games. Claesson also contributed in the offensive side, notching two goals during the three game week.

TU’s Women Soccer team will be back in Sun Conference action this coming Friday when they travel to Beaufort, SC to face University of South Carolina - Beaufort in a 3PM kickoff.


The Lady Night Hawks Win 2nd Conference Game

September 29, 2013

The Lady Night Hawks (5-3, 2-0) won their second straight conference game, 3-1, against Webber International University (1-4, 0-2) this afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.

WIU got on the board first, taking the lead with 24:34 left in the first half. TU evened up the game minutes later with a penalty kick goal by senior midfielder Carina Spengler. With the game knotted up at one, the Lady Night Hawks took the lead with 27:40 left in the second half with Spengler’s second goal of the game assisted from sophomore midfielder Linn Viklund. Senior defender Hannah Claesson put the game away with the third goal of the game. Thomas had 13 shots on goal and senior goalkeeper Deanna Rivet had 4 saves on the day.

Thomas Women’s Soccer Edges Warner in Sun Conference Opener

September 27, 2013

Thomas Women’s Soccer (4-3, 1-0) edged the visiting Warner University Royals (3-3, 0-1), 1-0, this afternoon in their 2013 Sun Conference opener.

TU dominated play from the opening whistle and tallied 24 shots with fourteen being on goal. The Lady Night Hawks finally broke thru with 3:27 left to play in the game when senior forward Emma Hewett headed home a cross from sophomore forward Alyssa Denton. Warner’s goalkeeper kept them in the game compiling 13 saves. Senior goalkeeper Deanna Rivet collected her first shutout of the season.

The Lady Night Hawks will look to open conference play 2-0 and will be seeking their fourth win in a row on Sunday at 1PM when they host the Webber International University Warriors at the TU Soccer Complex.


Women’s Soccer Blasts Past Georgia Southwestern

September 25, 2013

Women’s Soccer (3-3) blasted past NCAA D2 Georgia Southwestern (0-6), 11-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the TU Soccer complex in the Lady Night Hawks final non conference game.

The scoring was shared between eight different players being led by senior midfielder Carina Spengler with her second hat trick of the season. Breana Pullara a junior midfielder had two goals, while junior forward Jenny Hernandez, senior forward Emma Hewett, junior forward Alx Walter, sophomore midfielder Alyssa Denton, sophomore midfielder Lin Viklund, and senior midfielder Hannah Claesson all had a goal apiece. The lady Night Hawks had 24 shots on goal while only allowing one shot on goal.

TU women’s soccer will be back in action at 4:30 pm on Friday September 27 when they open Sun Conference play against Warner University at the TU Soccer Complex.
