Liburd named TSC Offensive Player of the Week

Senior Forward Rowan Liburd was named The Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week (September 23-29) by the league office on Monday afternoon.

TU Men’s Soccer had a 2-0 record this week beating conference opponents Ave Maria University 5-2 and Southeastern University 4-0.  The senior from Croydon, England totaled 4 goals and 2 assists (2 goals and one assist in each) in two Sun Conference victories this weekend. He now leads TU in goals scored (8) and total points (18).

Thomas will next travel to Webber International University on Friday October 4 at 4:30 pm, looking for their third win in TSC action.

Thomas University Men’s Soccer Wins Fourth in a Row

Thomas University Men’s Soccer (6-3) won their fourth in a row, blanking Southeastern University (4-3), 4-0, this afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.

The Night Hawks, now 2-0 in Sun Conference play, were led by senior forward Rowan Liburd’s two goals and one assist. Sophomore forwards Jarrod Ingram and Eric Persson each added a goal. TU tallied nineteen shots, nine on goal, while the defense held Southeastern to only five shots and no shots on goal, while collecting their third shutout of the year.

TU will next travel to Webber International University on Friday October 4 at 4:30 pm, looking for their third win in TSC action.

Night Hawk Soccer Opens TSC Play With Victory

September 26, 2013

The Night Hawks men’s soccer team (5-3, 1-0) opened Sun Conference play with a convincing 5-2 victory over the visiting Ave Maria University Gyrenes (1-6, 0-1) on Thursday afternoon at the Thomas University soccer complex.

Sophomore forward Jarrod Ingram opened the scoring for TU with a goal in the tenth minute of the first half. Thomas dominated ball possession in the first half but was unable to stretch out the score missing many opportunities throughout the opening 45 minutes of play. TU opened up the game early in the second with a goal by senior forward Rowan Liburd only 2:44 into the half. Sophomore Eric Persson knocked home a header off a corner kick to make it 3-0 and Liburd knocked in his second of the day after AMU converted a rare opportunity in the defensive half of the Night Hawks. TU increased their lead to 5-1 on a goal by freshman Severin Abt but Ave Maria responded by converting a penalty kick to make it a three goal game. Senior defender Steven Conway collected four assists in the game. The Night Hawks closed out their first TSC win of the season in a dominant fashion and finished the game with a 20-3 advantage in shots on goal.

TU will next welcome Southeastern University in their second TSC match this coming Saturday at 4PM.

TU Men's & Women's Soccer Receive NAIA National Recognition

TU Men's & Women's Soccer received National Recognition this afternoon in the NAIA Top 25 Poll with Men's Soccer being ranked at #25 and women's soccer receving votes. The accomplishmnent marks the first time since 2004 that both programs received national recognition during the same week.

Men's soccer received votes in the pre season poll but did not receive any in the first poll of year, which was released last week. The Night Hawks are 4-3 and have gone 2-2 against teams in the top 25, knocking off then #21 Southern Wesleyan University last Friday and then #5 Auburn University - Montgomery. In 2012, men's soccer spent seven weeks in the top 25, peaking at #14.

Women's soccer received four votes in the poll after knocking off then #23 Brenau University this past Sunday, their second win against a nationally ranked opponent this season. Earlier this season the Lady Night Hawks toppled then #7 University of Mobile. The four votes for women's soccer is their first mention in the poll since 2004 when they finished the season ranked in the top 25.
