TU Wraps Up Regular Season, Splits with Warner on Senior Day

April 27, 2013

TU (21-23) wrapped up their regular season with a Sun Conference double header split on Senior Day against Warner University (19-18, 9-7).

Junior starting pitcher Summer Rose (5-7) made sure that the three Lady Night Hawk seniors would win at least one more home game, tossing a complete game shutout in a 2-0 game one victory. Rose scattered six hits for her fifth win of the year. Sophomore right fielder Carmen Nadal (2-2, R, 2 RBI, HR) drove in the game's only runs with a first inning two run home run.

Warner did not cooperate in game two disallowing the seniors from leaving Armory Field on a winning note, dropping TU 6-4. A four run second inning for WU, in which Thomas committed three errors, proved to be the difference in the game. A sixth inning solo home run by freshman second baseman Danielle Lower (1-1, R, RBI, HR) made it a 5-4 game but Warner added an insurance run in the seventh and set down the Lady Night Hawks in the bottom half of the inning to end the game and the final home game for three Lady Night Hawks. Junior starting pitcher Aimee Johnson (5-7) took the loss.

Seniors Dionne Bishop (Valdosta, GA), Alyssa Bork (Powder Springs, GA) and Kortney Campbell (Hilliard, FL) played their last home games and were honored in between games for their years of service to the TU Softball program.

The Lady Night Hawks will now await the announcement of their seed in the 2013 Sun Conference Tournament to be played May 2-4 at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.

Southeastern Scores TSC Sweep of Lady Night Hawks

April 26, 2013

Southeastern University (24-17, 8-6) scored a Sun Conference double header sweep, 4-7 & 0-1, of the TU Lady Night Hawks (20-22, 7-7) on Friday afternoon at Armory Field.

TU played catch up since the first inning of game one and could not overcome the 7-1 advantage SEU held after five innings. The Night Hawks scored one in the sixth and would rally to score two in the seventh before Southeastern closed out the game one victory. Five TU errors did not help matters much as Thomas out hit SEU 12-9. Junior starting pitcher Jessica Johnson (2-3) took the loss after lasting only three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits.

A game two pitchers duel saw SEU come out on top, breaking a scoreless tie with the game's only run in the top of the fourth. The teams combined for only six hits, with TU being out hit 4-2. Junior starting pitcher Aimee Johnson (5-6) tossed the complete game loss, surrendering one earned run on four hits.

Thomas will wrap up its TSC and regular season schedule on Saturday in a home double header against Warner University. First pitch is set for 1PM.
