Night Hawks held scoreless again on Day Two

May 18, 2012

The Night Hawks were once again held scoreless on Day Two of Pool Play in Gulf Shores, AL., falling to #14 Williams Baptist (AR) 3-0.

Alyssa Bork collected her second hit of the tournament, and Briana Dworak singled as well for TU, but 9 strikeouts killed any momentum for TU (21-30). The third inning proved to be the game for WBU (51-9). Two errors on the same play led to a WBU runner advancing to third. A walk and a groundout later, a squeeze bunt scored the first run, Williams Baptist plated the final two runs on a single and a double. Alexa Fair (8-9) pitched the complete game, allowing 3 earned runs and a walk, while striking out two.

TU will complete pool play tomorrow with a 1pm game against future Sun Conference foe Webber International.

Stars outshine Night Hawks on Day One of Pool Play at National Tournament

May 17, 2012

The third ranked Oklahoma City Stars (41-18) proved to be too much for the Night Hawks (21-29) on Day One of the NAIA National Tournament at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex in Gulf Shores, AL winning 8-0.

The Stars scored 3 runs in the first inning, 3 more in the second, and one more in the third, all credited against TU starter Alexa Fair (8-8). OCU tacked on more against reliever Rachel Ivancic in the seventh. With 2 out in the top of the first, Meagean DeLaTorre ripped a double to left past a diving Sorrel Hale to drive in the first two runs for OCU. Jamie Raetliff followed with a single to center to stretch the lead to 3-0. TU bounced back to threaten in the bottom of the first, but Courtney Campbell was cut down at home trying to score on a wild pitch, followed by Heather Marlowe's strikeout to end the inning.

In the second inning, OCU added 3 more runs on 3 hits, a walk, and an error to make the score 6-0.  OCU pitcher Lily Lavelle (14 K, 2 BB) would homer in the 3rd to stretch the lead to 7-0. Ivancic would pitch the last four innings, allowing 4 hits and one run. Campbell, Fair, and Alyssa Bork each had hits for TU.
