Third Place Finish for Golf at A.I.I. Tournament

Golf finished in third place this afternoon in the final round of the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament at the Bull Creek Golf Club in Columbus, GA.

Needing to make up six strokes TU stumbled on day two shooting a 301, two shots better than round two but the leader Spring Hill College held their advantage by shooting a 294 in round three for the victory. The Night Hawks finished in third overall with a 902, 13 strokes from the top spot. Senior Lance Williams (72/71/78) missed a medal spot by two strokes after shooting a 78 on day two and finishing in fifth with a 221 (+5).  Sophomore Matt Luckett finished sixth overall with a 222 (74/76/72, +6). His 72 in round three tied him with fellow teammate senior Patrick Lovely (76/WD/72)  and three others for the top score on day two. Lovely was foreced to withdraw in round two with a shoulder injury, a major loss for the Night Hawks that played a major role in the final outcome. 

The third place finish at the A.I.I. tournament ends the season for the Night Hawks. TU will graduate Lovely, Williams and Brian Herrell but will look for continued development from Luckett and junior Ben Spooner, along with a new batch of recruits for another step forward in the 2010-11 season.

 

Men's Golf Tied for Third After Day One of A.I.I. Tournament

Men's golf is tied for third place after day one of the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament at the Bull Creek Golf Club in Columbus, GA.

TU shot a 601 (298 & 303) in the two rounds of play and is six strokes from the top spot, currently held by Spring Hill College. The Night Hawks are tied with Lambuth University. Senior Lance Williams led the way for TU shooting a 143 (72 & 71) over the first 36 holes.

Tournament play continues tomorrow morning from Bull Creek as TU will look to make up the six strokes and earn a trip to the 2010 NAIA Golf National Championships May 18-21, at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, IL.

 

Night Hawks Defeat Darton

The Night Hawks wrapped up their regular season with a defeat of Darton College in the Glen Arven Challenge this afternoon at the Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville, GA.

TU edged Darton by six strokes after shooting a four man score of 298. Two time Ping All American, senior Lance Williams, led the Night Hawks with an even par 72. Sophomore Matt Luckett fired a 1 over par followed by senior Brian Herrell, who shot a 75 (+3).

Golf will begin play in the Association of Independent Institutions tournament on Monday April 19 at the Bull Creek Golf Club in Columbus, GA. At stake will be a spot in the 2010 NAIA Golf National Championships May 18-21 at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, IL.

 

TU Finishes Tied for 12th at Marine Corp Intercollegiate

TU finished tied for 12th out of 16 teams at the Marine Corp Intercollegiate played the last three days at the Paradise Point Golf Club in Camp LeJeune, NC.

The Night Hawks shot a 889 overall (294/283/312) and finished +33, forty strokes off the leader. Senior Patrick Lovely finished 8th overall, shooting a 213 (69/69/75), -1, over the three rounds of play. No other Night Hawk placed in the Top 30.

Golf will begin play in the Association of Independent Institutions tournament on Monday April 19 at the Bull Creek Golf Club in Columbus, GA. At stake will be a spot in the 2010 NAIA Golf National Championships May 18-21 at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, IL.

 

Night Hawks Finish Twelfth at Eagle Invitational

The Night Hawks Golf team finished 12th out of 18 teams at the Eagle Invitational, played over the past two days at the Pelican Bay Country Club in Daytona Beach, FL.

TU shot a 947 (309-320-318) over the three rounds of golf. Senior Patrick Lovely led the way for the Night Hawks shooting a 234 (81-75-78) and finishing tied for 40th overall. Fellow senior Lance Williams (73-81-81) and sophomore Matt Luckett (75-83-77) finished tied for 45th with a 235.

Golf will be back on the links Friday March 26, when they travel to the Paradise Point Golf Club in Camp LeJeune, NC to open play in the Marine Corp Intercollegiate.

 

Shorter Takes 2010 TU Invitational, Night Hawks Fourth

Shorter College won the 2010 TU Invitational this afternoon, after shooting a 611 (306 - 305, +35) at the Kinderlou Golf Club in Valdosta, GA.

The Hawks finished day one tied with TU with a 306 but improved by one sroke to take the eleven team field by 2 strokes. Johnson & Wales University, after finishing day one in third, finished behind Shorter shooting a 613 overall (308 - 305, +37). Darton College (617, 312 - 305, +41), Thomas University (618, 306 - 312, +42 and Southeastern University (620, 309 - 311, +44) rounded out the top five. It was a disappointing second round for TU, who was tied for the lead after round one but lost six strokes on Shorter in day two.

Arvid Bengtsson from Shorter College was the individual winner firing a 75 on day two, finishing even with a 144 (69 - 74, E). Taylor Welborn from Darton College finished in second with a 148 (75 - 73, 148, +4), improving in day two by two strokes. Greg Belsito (75 - 74, 149, +5) from Johnson & Wales University and TU's Patrick Lovely (72 - 77, 149. +5), tied for third. Jordan Meltzer (77 - 73, 150, +6) from Johnson & Wales and Taylor Huse (75 - 75, 150, +6) tied for fifth. The Night Hawks Brian Herrell tied for sixteenth with a 155 (79 - 76, +11).

TU hits the greens again on March 13 when they travel to the Pelican Bay Country Club in Daytona Beach, FL to participate in the Eagle Invitational.

TU Tied For Lead After Round 1 of TU Invitational

TU is tied for the lead after round 1 of action at the 2010 TU Winter Invitational taking place at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, GA.

The Night Hawks shot a 306 overall, +18, on a cold and rainy day finishing up day one action tied with Shorter College for the overall lead. Johnson and Wales University is in 3rd with a 308 (+20), with Southeastern University (309, +21) and Webber International University (311, +23) rounding out the top 5. Arvid Bengtsson from Shorter College leads the field of 69 golfers after stroking a 69 (-3) and TU's Patrick Lovely is in second after shooting par (72).

Action continues tomorrow from the Kinderlou Forest with the first tee times being pushed back to 11AM due to expected frost delays.

Night Hawks Finish 10th

The Night Hawks golf team finished 10th of 12 teams at the SCAD Invitational, played over the last two days at the Wilmington Island Golf Club in Savannah, GA.

TU shot a 925 overall (312, 296, 317 - +73) and failed to finish in the Top 3 of a tournament for the first time this season. Senior Lance Williams finished tied for 20th after shooting a 224 (70, 77, 77), +11. Williams was the highest scoring Night Hawk over the three rounds of action but failed to finish in the Top 5 for the first time this year.

This was the final event for the Night Hawks this Fall. They will resume play on February 15, when host the TU Winter Invitational at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, GA.

 

Men's Golf 9th After Day One

Men's Golf finished day one of the 2009 SCAD Invitational in ninth place after shooting a 608 (312 & 296) over the two rounds played today at the Wilmington Island Country Club in Savannah, GA.

Senior Lance Williams (147, 70 & 77 +5) is currently tied for 16th and fellow senior Patrick Lovely finished day one tied for 22nd with a 150 (76 & 74, +8). The Night Hawks will look for better rounds of golf in the final day of action tomorrow in Savannah, trying to finish in the top 3 for the third time this year.

 

Men's Golf Finish 2nd at Chick-fil-A

October 7, 2009

Men's golf finished in a three way tie for 2nd place, yesterday afternoon, in the 2009 Chick-fil-A Invitational, hosted by Berry College at the Coosa Country Club in Rome, GA.

TU shot a 577 (287 & 290) as a team, one over par, and finished one stroke off the leader (Lee University). Senior Lance Williams led the way for the Night Hawks, shooting a 140 (70 & 70, -4) and finishing in a three way tie for fifth. The Night Hawks also got an outstanding performance from senior Patrick Lovely who finished tied for 13th after shooting a 143 (68 & 75, -1) over the two rounds of action. Lovely was tied for the overall lead after round action, shooting a 68.

Thomas will seek their third straight Top 2 finish on Monday October 26 when they begin play in the SCAD Invitational at the Wilmington Island Country Club in Savannah, GA.

 

TU Golf wins Darton Invitational

September 15, 2009

The TU Golf team opened their 2009-10 campaign by winning the Darton College Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the River Pointe Golf Club in Albany, GA.

Senior Patrick Lovely led the Night Hawks and the field after shooting a 141 (75 & 66), three under par. Fellow senior Lance Williams finished tied for second overall  with a 144 (74 & 70), finishing the two rounds at par. The Night Hawks shot a 592 (305 & 287) as a team and finished eight strokes ahead of runner up Georgia Southwestern University.

TU will next hit the greens on Monday October 5 as they travel to the Coosa Country Club in Rome, GA to participate in the Chick-fil-A Invitational hosted by Berry College.
