Thomas University supports student involvement in a variety of learning environments outside of the traditional classroom. Our study abroad program immerses students in another culture to provide a unique learning experience under the direction and support of Thomas University faculty.
Thomas University students and faculty travel throughout the volcanic regions of western Nicaragua in this unique and exciting opportunity to learn about the culture, history, geology, archaeology, and health care of the people of Nicaragua. Students examine petroglyphs, explore ancient Mayan ruins, identify native plant species, and search for cultural artifacts while performing field work in cooperation with professors from TU and Nicaragua.

Thomas University graduate and undergraduate students are eligible for this study abroad program which exposes students to an international business culture. This program includes lectures on the international business perspectives of management, marketing, accounting, technology and finance. Students also tour major cultural, economic, and historic sites in these countries.
Nursing students are privileged to have this opportunity to study abroad in the mountainous region of Honduras, serving the basic health care needs of the local population through a missionary health clinic established by TU Nursing alumna Lavearn Brooker. Students learn about the economic challenges, as well as the successes, in developing a community infrastructure to support healthy living in this isolated part of Central America.
Scholarship Support for Foreign Study Travel Fees
When endowed scholarship funds are available to support costs associated with participating in Thomas University’s foreign study experiences, we make those available to students. Check with the foreign study course organizer to know if funds are available. Only students who have paid the $500 deposit indicating their intention to register for a foreign study experiences are eligible for scholarship support funds.
