High School/College Accel Program

The Accel Program is a great way to jump start your college education before you leave high school. Through the Accel program high school juniors and seniors  take college-credit classes which are paid for by Georgia’s lottery. We partner with local secondary schools to offer an opportunity for local high school students to earn advance college credit, including an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies.

Accel Program Guidelines:

  • A high school student must be classified as an 11th or 12th grader to participate.
  • Eligible high school courses include only core-curriculum courses of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Foreign Language that can be used to satisfy the core-curriculum high school graduation requirements.
  • Hours taken and paid for by the Accel program beginning in Fall 2011 will not be counted in the combined paid-hours limit for HOPE Scholarship, Zell Miller Scholarship, and HOPE Grant.
  • The Accel Program award for private colleges and universities (such as Thomas University) will be prorated based on an award of $3,000 per academic year. The rate per credit hour is $125 per semester hour or $84 per quarter hour.

To learn more about Accel funding and administration go to the Georgia Student Finance Commission or speak with an Admissions counselor.
