The ARC’s mission is to provide individualized instruction in writing and math to all students who are not eligible for Student Support Services. See Student Support Services to see if you qualify.

Thomas University believes the ability to express yourself on the written page and to develop critical thinking skills through math are key to your successful career and future.  Consequently, we offer writing and math tutors Monday through Friday for specific hours each semester.

The sessions are personal and hands-on; you bring your specific work with your individual questions.  You set the agenda.

WRITING

The writing tutors will provide help not only with essays and research papers for composition courses but also with writing assignments in other classes. The writing staff is committed to providing feedback on each point in the writing process, from getting started and finding a focus, to helping students find and correct their own grammar and usage problems.

Sample questions:

Is the thesis clear?

Do I have enough supporting details?

Are my transitions effective?

Did I document my Internet sources properly?

MATH

The math tutors will assist with any basic math, algebra, calculus, or trigonometry assignments on which you need extra, individual discussion to keep you on track in the classroom.

The math tutor is the student resource for guiding you through assignments, assisting with specific math problems, and preparing you to become a more efficient thinker and math problem solver.

Come prepared to work:

Bring the specific math problem with you.

Do I need my textbook for this session?

Have I followed the problem solving method as described in the text or by the teacher?
