The RN-MSN program comprises a focused curriculum of 134 undergraduate and graduate credit hours. Upon completion of the RN-MSN program, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree is awarded. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is not awarded as part of the RN-MSN degree program.
BSN Bridge Courses
These courses enable the student RN to make a smooth transition to the graduate level of study. Students will study the current issues and trends in nursing practice and research. The development of professional role identity is enhanced through a critical analysis of the core values central to nursing. Students will become prepared to write scholarly papers using reasoned claims, scholarly resources, APA documentation, and a professional writing style. Health assessment and promotion, communication, and community-as-partner assist in the creative/critical thinking activities and skills acquired through these courses.

MSN Core Courses
These are foundational courses of the program and are required of all candidates. Courses focus on the policies which shape the organization and financing of health care and the influence of such policies on access, quality and affordability of health care services to specific populations at the local, state, national and international level; theories and concepts related to health, leadership, and education; research methodology and the utilization of research to inform practice and improve the quality of health care; issues and trends related to health care technology and informatics; community health service or education program planning and development to improve quality and access to health care; the legal, ethical, political, and social environments that influence health care policy and decision-making for health care professionals; and leadership/management strategies designed to improve the quality of care and professional practice environments.

Nursing Administration Concentration
(12 semester hours to include one three-hour elective)
The Nursing Administration concentration courses expand and build on the core courses. One course is dedicated to human resource management strategies in nursing and health care; elective coursework is tailored to the student’s interests and career goals and may include such topics as financial management / analysis, marketing, organizational strategic planning, or community health systems / policy development. Students are encouraged to pursue electives in the M.B.A. program at Thomas University.
An internship provides opportunities to apply management principles, theories, and strategies in a variety of health care settings. The capstone experience is the capstone project in nursing administration / leadership, which entails the development, implementation, and evaluation of one or more strategies to enhance the quality of care and patient outcomes; effectively manage human and/or financial resources associated with the provision of care; and/or improve the professional practice setting in which care is provided.

Nursing Education Concentration

Courses focus on the process of curriculum planning, development, and program evaluation, as well as teaching, learning, and assessment strategies.
An internship in nursing education provides an opportunity to implement teaching and learning strategies in an academic setting. The capstone experience is the capstone project in nursing education, which entails the development, implementation, and evaluation of one or more approaches to improve or enrich nursing education programs and/or academic settings.
