Spotlight on Student Veterans

Spotlight on Student Veterans

This issue’s spotlight on veterans features Jessica Mobley. Jessica is a junior majoring in business and is currently in her fourth semester at TU. Jessica is Jessica Mobleyoriginally from Laurel, Maryland, which is a suburb of Washington D.C. and Baltimore, but currently resides in Colquitt with her husband and 2 young boys, ages 2 and 4.

Jessica graduated from high school in 2005 and joined the Air Force in 2007. She attended basic training in San Antonio, Texas at Lackland Air Force Base. Jessica attended more training at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, but was based mostly at the Grand Forks Air Force Base in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Amazingly, she met her future husband on her first day at work! While serving in the U.S. Air Force, Jessica’s AFSC was 1C751- Airfield Management Shift Leader. She managed everything that took place on the airfield including overseeing construction projects, general airfield safety, wildlife management, and all aircraft departing and arriving on base.

When asked of her overall impression of serving in the military, Jessica offered the following advice: “Anyone who is capable of joining the military [should do so because] some of the things you learn in the military are things you can’t learn anywhere else. It makes you grow up, it teaches you how to follow orders and be a leader. Even leaders have to follow orders. It was the best experience of my life.” Jessica chose to serve because she comes from a big military family. She knew she was going to join the military even before she entered high school because she knew she couldn’t afford college unless she joined. She also had a strong desire to do her part in serving the country.

Jessica loves attending TU because of the small class sizes. Before she even moved to Georgia, she knew that TU was one of the top military friendly schools, and to her that was a big plus in choosing TU.

We love that Jessica attends TU, too!
