Military Honor Societies

SALUTE National Honor Society - http://www.salute.colostate.edu/

The SALUTE HONOR SOCIETY (Service – Academics – Leadership – Unity- Tribute- Excellence) is an honor society, made possible by a generous grant from the American Council on Education/Wal-Mart Foundation, dedicated to recognizing military and veteran students who have displayed outstanding performance in the classroom. This extraordinary honor society is now one of the honor societies recognized at Thomas University, and only honor society for veterans. The SALUTE Honor Society defines a veteran as any active duty service member, National Guard, or reserve, who has been honorably discharged, regardless of time served or participation in armed conflict.

To be considered for membership, you must have a minimum of 12 credit hours of college coursework, and have a minimum cumulative 3.0 (based on a 4.0 system). The cumulative GPA includes ALL college coursework from ALL institutions attended. Additionally, SALUTE has four tiers in which a veteran student may qualify. They are:

Alpha    3.75 – 4.00
Bravo    3.50 – 3. 74
Charlie  3.25 – 3.49
Delta     3.00 – 3.24

Additionally, the student veteran must submit a DD-214 Certificate of Release (Member – 4) or Discharge from Active Duty or a copy of military orders.

Unique to other honor societies, SALUTE allows members to move up in “rank” between the tiers. For example, if a veteran student is inducted as a Delta member, when he or she raises their GPA to a higher tier, the SALUTE member is recognized.

The SALUTE induction will be held every April before commencement. SALUTE members will be given a challenge coin, a certificate of membership in SALUTE, and a red/white/blue braided honor cord to be worn with his or her graduation regalia.
