Thomas University Library has a number of collections These collections and their circulation policies are described below.

Circulating:

We have more than 30,000 volumes in our circulating collection. The collection is cataloged using the Library of Congress cataloging system and has LC call numbers or shelf tags.

Students and faculty may have five books at a time charged to their account; the loan period is two weeks. Materials may be renewed in person or by phone with a valid library ID number and identity confirmation.

Reference:

Our Reference collection consists of nearly 8,000 volumes, many of them the latest reference works in a subject area. Reference books do not circulate, but you are welcome to use them any time the library is open.

Special Collections:

The Special Collections area includes some rare volumes dating back to the founding of Birdwood College.

Juvenile:

In support of our Education programs, we have a great collection of Easy Reader and Juvenille literature. Many of the books have won awards including the Newberry, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Pura Belpre, and more. Books are cataloged and shelved alphabetically by author's last name.

E-Books

E-Books are provided through a subscription to NetLibrary. Our collection includes over 35,000 volumes in a wide range of subject areas. Thomas University students can access these books from anywhere they can access the Internet.

Periodicals:

TU LIbrary purchases print and digital copies more than 46,000 professional journals, and even some popular magazines as well as local  and national newspapers. Online versions are available through one of our many databses, while print versions are available in the library.

Media:

Come to the library to browse our selection of education and popular DVD titles as well as music CDs and more. Media materials may be borrowed for 3 days and are renewable.

Research Guides:

Thomas University librarians author various pathfinders and reference guides for our students. The guides range from comprehensive guides for general disciplinary areas such as the Social Work Research Guide, to guides written for specific assignments such as the Pathfinder for Senate Research. Also included in this sections are instructional guides for online and Internet research, evaluating sources including websites, journals, and monographs, using Boolean operators and special characters, and command line power searching. All documents are available for download in pdf format.

E-Reference:

Our online reference desk has been created especially for distance students, students taking online courses, and anyone who does research at home. TU librarians have compiled and written lists of websites, free databases, organizations, pathfinders, research guides and other information sources we have determined to be authoritative and reliable. Resources are organized into broad catergories for convenience including Fast Facts & Mega-Reference, Academic Subjects & Interests, and General Topics.

Kindle: 

Don't forget to stop in and try our Kindle! We have a number of electronic texts to choose from and some confortable chairs for lounging!

Devices:

Webcams, headphones, digital voice recorders, video cameras, digital projectors and screens, a tripod, and more. Look in our catalog or drop by the circulation desk. Circulating periods and policies vary by device...just ask!
