Applying for Financial Aid

Steps to Submitting Financial Aid Applications

1. Fill out the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA). It is available online at www.fafsa.gov.

Thomas University School Code: 001555

Be sure to complete the correct FAFSA application for the corresponding academic year you plan to enroll. The FAFSA must be completed each academic year to be considered for most types of financial aid including Stafford loans.

2011-2012 FAFSA (August 2011 -- July 2012): Use the 2010 Federal tax return.

2012-2013 FAFSA (August 2012 -- July 2013): Use the 2011 Federal tax return.

NOTE: Estimated tax information will delay awarding of financial aid. If estimated numbers are used, you must make corrections later to your FAFSA when updated information is available.

Also, make sure you enter your full address (street address, apartment number, and P.O. box if applicable) on all paperwork.

If your Student Aid Report (processed FAFSA results) indicates you were selected for verification, you will need to submit a signed copy of the federal tax return used to complete the FAFSA along with your W-2's and a verification worksheet. The worksheet is available for download here. Select the appropriate verification form according to your dependency status (dependent or independent). Our office will send a postcard notification to you requesting these documents if your FAFSA indicates verification.

If you are a dependent student, you will also need to submit a signed copy of your parents' federal tax return and W-2's. If you are married, you will need to include a signed copy of your spouse's federal tax return if you filed separately.

2. Complete the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG) application. It is available online at www.GAcollege411.org, or you can download a paper application to mail to our office. (For Georgia residents taking 12 or more hours.)
