Outside Scholarships
The following scholarship listings are offered outside of Thomas University. Please carefully review the qualifications and requirements for any scholarship before applying. Be sure to submit the required information by the appropriate deadline associated with the scholarship.
Abbott & Fenner Scholarship
Award: $1,000
Requirement: Must be either a high school junior or senior OR currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution
Application: Submit an essay between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following:
What was the most difficult time in your life, and why? How did your perspective on life change as a result of this difficulty?
Submit essay to: scholarships@abbottandfenner.com. Be sure to include your full name as well as your mailing address.
Deadline: June 15, 2012
B.Davis Scholarship
Award: $1,000
Requirement: Must be either a high school junior or senior OR currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution
Application: Discuss, in less than 1000 words, how your education has contributed to who you are today, or how it will affect who you will become.
Submit your short essay via email to awards@studentawardsearch.com. Be sure to include where you are currently attending along with your future academic plans.

BigSun Scholarship
The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. They are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award regardless of the sport in which they participate.
Award: $500
Qualifications:
- High school senior
OR
- Currently attending a postsecondary institute
- Currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community
How to Apply: Submit a short essay answering the following:
How has your education contributed to who you are today? Why do you want to earn a college education?

BrainTrack Nursing Scholarship
Awards: Winner - $1000 & Runner up - $500
This scholarship helps current students pay for their education in the nursing field. Entrants must respond to essay questions that are geared toward helping people evaluate nursing as a potential career path.
Requirements:
- Must have at least one semester of credits towards graduation with an appropriate degree in nursing (undergraduate or graduate)
- Must be enrolled in one or more relevant classes at the time of the entry deadline
- May be enrolled either part-time or full-time
- Must be a U.S. citizen, have permanent resident status, or have an appropriate student visa
- May be enrolled in an on-campus and/or online program
- May submit only one entry every 12 months
Winners will be selected based on the creativity, focus, overall thoughtfulness, accuracy, and practical value of their responses to essay questions.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Awards: Amounts vary by scholarship
Requirements:
- Be of HIspanic heritage
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired)
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Have plans to enroll full-time in a degree-seeking program at a 2- or 4-year U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam during the 2012-2013 academic year
- Must apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Other requirements may vary by scholarship

Mary Blake Single Parent Nursing Scholarship
Award: $500
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be a single parent
- Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited school of nursing
- Must provide transcripts showing a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or greater, or show an ACT score of at least 28 or an SAT score of at least 1250
- Must submit an essay of at least 500 words describing why you are uniquely deserving of this award

Nursing Scholarship Program
Benefits
In exchange for a minimum 2-year service commitment at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses, the Nursing Scholarship Program pays:
- tuition
- eligible fees
- other reasonable costs, such as books, clinical supplies/instruments and uniforms.
- monthly stipend ($1,289 for the 2012-2013 school year)
Eligibility
- U.S. citizens (born or naturalized), nationals or lawful permanent residents
- enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a professional nursing degree program (baccalaureate, graduate, associate degree, or diploma) at accredited school of nursing located in a U.S. state or territory
- begin classes no later than September 30
- free from any Federal judgment liens
- free from existing service commitments
- not delinquent on a Federal debt
Selection Criteria
- Financial need-based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of zero, which is provided from FAFSA
- Academic performance
- Essay questions
- Recommendation letter
