DIRECT Stafford Loan Application

  1. Before applying for a loan, you must complete the FAFSA. It may take up to 2-3 weeks for your FAFSA to process. Be sure to include our school code (001555).
  2.

  3. Once we receive your processed FAFSA (Student Aid Report), we will review your file for completeness. Our office will notify you if we need additional information.
  4. If you are a new student, you must be officially accepted to Thomas University via the Office of Admissions before we can award any financial aid to you. Once you are accepted, we can then move forward with the award process.

Your financial aid award offer will include any applicable grants and scholarships along with a Stafford Loan offer. You must log in to Hawklink to accept or decline the awards offered to you. If you wish to make adjustments to the loan amount(s) offered, you will need to contact the Office of Financial Aid.

    How much should I borrow?

Debt/Salary Wizard - Use this tool to help you determine how much you should borrow based on your expected salary in the future. You can also determine what salary is needed based on your current student loan debt.

Remember to be conservative and borrow only what you need. Also, be sure to keep track of how much you borrow each year. You can find your loan history online via the National Student Loan Data System.

  5. If you are a new Stafford Loan borrower or if you have never had a loan through Direct Loans, you will need to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Direct Loans. This document is your contract with the lender agreeing to repay the loan when the time comes to do so.
  6. Click on the link below to go to StudentLoans.gov. Once there, log in using a Federal PIN. Click on the Complete Entrance Counseling link to complete that step first. Next, go to Complete Master Promissory Note.
