Fall – Junior Year (15 credits)
- Introduction to Social Work (Online) – An introduction and overview of the profession of social work exploring all levels of social work practice.
- Cultural Diversity (Online) – An exploration of the diversity of cultures and lifestyles that social workers encounter and how to be most effective in assisting these populations.
- Social Work Practice with Individuals (Hybrid Presentation -Mondays 6:00 PM-7:30 PM at TCC) - The social work practice classes provide the theory and actual skills building exercises for meeting clients, gaining rapport, and doing the social work interview which is the foundation for creating a plan for change.
- Ethics in Human Services (Hybrid Presentation: Mondays 7:30 to 9:00 PM at TCC) - This class explores the ethical boundaries within which social workers must practice.
- Social Work Related Elective – Online (3 credits): Any 3 credit elective related to social work approved by your advisor.
Spring – Junior Year (15 Credits)
- Human Behavior in the Social Environment: (Online) – Using the “Person in Environment” Perspective, this classroom explores human development over the lifespan.
- Social Work Practice with Families (Hybrid Presentation: Mondays at 6:00-7:30 PM at TCC)– This is a theory and skills based class based on assisting students to work with families around a variety of social work issues.
- Social Welfare Policy (Hybrid Presentation: Mondays 7:30 to 9:00 PM at TCC) - This course explores the “macro” based issues that influence the lives of social work clients such as social welfare legislation, Medicare, Medicaid, and TANF.
- Research Methods (Online Hybrid or Hybrid): Social work professionals must be able to understand scholarly research and be able to apply research methods to their own practice.
- Social Work Related Elective - Online (3 credits): Any 3 credit elective related to social work approved by your advisor.
Fall – Senior Year (15 Credits)
- Social Work Practicum – (6 credits)- Social work students must work 2 days a week (14-16 hours per week/200 hours per semester) as an intern, under the guidance of a social work supervisor, at a non-profit agency, school, or social service organization.
- Social Work Seminar – (Hybrid Presentation: Mondays 6:00 PM-7:30 PM at TCC)- This seminar class provides a setting for students to integrate classroom theory with the actual practice experience they are receiving in their field placement.
- Social Work Practice with Groups: (Hybrid Presentation: Mondays 7:30 to 9:00 PM at TCC)- Understanding the structure and theory of groups is essential to small group practice. This involves not only learning how to run a small group or committee but having a basic understanding of group dynamics and goals.
- Social Work Related Elective (3 credits): Any 3 credit elective related to social work approved by your advisor.
Spring – Senior Year (15 Credits)
- Social Work Practicum – (6 credits)- This is a continuation of the first semester placement of 2 days a week (14-16 hours per week/200 hours per semester)
- Social Work Seminar – (Hybrid Presentation: Mondays 6:00 PM-7:30 PM at TCC)- Continuation of the first semester seminar.
- Social Work Practice with Communities and Organizations: (Hybrid Presentation: Mondays 7:30 to 9:00 PM at TCC)- Macro based social work practice involves working with communities, agencies, and legislation to influence change for our client populations.
- Free Elective - Online (3 credits): Any 3 credit elective of your choosing and approved by your advisor.
