International Student Admission

Thomas University welcomes applications from international students. At TU, applicant files are classified as "international" if they meet any of the criteria listed below. Supplemental application materials are needed for each of the following criteria, so review this web site carefully to see what is needed in your specific case.

Classification as an International Applicant:

  • You are not a U.S. citizen and are currently in the United States on an F-1 (student) visa.
  • You are currently in the United States on some other class of visa. Please submit a copy of the visa from your passport.

Deadlines for International Applicants*

  • Fall Semester — June 1
  • Spring Semester — October 1
  • Summer Semester — February 1

* Note: All admission requirements must be met on or before the posted deadline to be considered for admissions at Thomas University.  All international files require more documentation than traditional files, but how much more information depends on your situation. We suggest that you review the following categories to see what additional materials are needed in order for us to review your file. Remember: these materials must be submitted by the stated deadlines in order to have a complete file that is ready for review.

Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS)
+1 215 222 8454
http://www.cgfns.org/
CGFNS is the only credential evaluation service provider recognized by all state Boards of Nursing. Thomas University only accepts foreign transcript evaluations for Nursing from CGFNS.

The foreign credit evaluation should include an explanation that the institution is recognized by the ministry of education in the home country and is generally considered to offer at least the equivalent of U.S. higher education credit. In addition, it should include an explanation of the credits, the grading system, and course levels, as well as a course-by-course evaluation.

The expertise and reliability of a professional evaluation report is recognized worldwide and is likely to be accepted by other academic institutions, employers, and state licensing boards. However, the report is not binding to Thomas University and will be considered a recommendation for independent decision of the credit to be given. Please note: It may take 2-6 weeks to obtain a credit evaluation.

International Student Insurance:

All international students must maintain a minimum coverage insurance policy for the duration of their studies. It is the student's responsibility to procure this coverage, and to assume financial responsibility for it.

Minimum coverage:

(1) Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness;

(2) Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000;

(3) Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of exchange of student to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000; and

(4) Deductibles not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.

The following providers have polices for F-Visa, J-Visa, and OPT. You are not required to use these providers:

Issuing an I-20

Please note that a student must be officially accepted to Thomas University before we can issue an I-20. In order to process a student’s I-20, we must receive:

  • All admission requirements as listed on the international applications (both Undergraduate and Graduate).
  • If you are currently a student at another institution in the United States and already have an F-1 visa, you will need a new I-20 issued by Thomas University. Therefore, you must submit all admission requirements necessary for transfer students.
  • First semesters tuition charges.

* Please note: We cannot accept faxes or unofficial photocopies of financial letters or bank statements. All financial information must be dated less than one year prior to the first day of classes of the term you intend to begin study.
