Thomas University Jazz Festival slated for Sunday

Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) will present the TU Jazz Festival at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Thomas County Board of Education Auditorium, 200 N. Pinetree Blvd., Thomasville.

The jazz festival will include performances by the Thomas County Central High School Jazz Band and the TU Jazz Ensemble. Joining both groups will be guest artist and clinician Joel Johnson, Associate Professor of Music Industry and Modern Guitar at Albany State University.

“The idea behind a jazz festival that brings this kind of American music to the community is something we have done before,” said Karl Barton, ACTU Coordinator. “This year we are bridging the gap with the next generation by providing a clinic for the high school students with our guest artist Joel Johnson as well as an opportunity to perform with a professional musician. This kind of educational outreach is essential to the continuation of this great art form and also provides a concert for everyone in the community to enjoy.”

The Jazz Festival is part of ACTU’s Sundays at Four series. For more information, call 229-227-6964 or email actu@thomasu.edu. Visit www.thomasu.edu/actu to learn about other ACTU events.
