Thomas University celebrates Giving Tuesday with fundraising initiative

On Nov. 27 Thomas University will celebrate the national #GivingTuesday effort with its own fundraising initiative.

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s  Giving Tuesday will be Nov. 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back, according to the Giving Tuesday website

Thomas University administrators hope Giving Tuesday will bring together all TU supporters in one day, no matter their location. TU officials also hope to strengthen connections with its alumni. After graduating, many TU alumni go on to do great things. TU officials want alumni to stay connected to the university and learn about the amazing work that continues at their alma mater. For Giving Tuesday, TU officials set a goal of 125 total donors.

“Instead of focusing on a dollar amount as a goal, we decided to make this day of giving about people,” said Joey Lynn, TU’s Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. “We hope that TU alumni especially will take this as an opportunity to not only give back, but to reconnect with each other and challenge one another to support the place that brought them together. In fact, we have already had a very generous donor anonymously commit to a challenge gift of $1,000 once we reach our 125-donor goal.”

Giving Tuesday donors can choose how their gifts are used. They can designate their gift to more than 20 different areas of campus, including one of the eight academic divisions, an athletic team, the library, or the general scholarship fund. If a donor can’t decide on a single designation, he or she can split a gift among more than one designation.
